JOMORO MP LAUNCHES INTEREST FREE LOANS TO EMPOWER WOMEN IN TRADE.

 

The member of Parliament for Jomoro constituency in the Western Region, Hon Dorcas Afo-Toffey has launched Women Assistant interest free loan scheme to enable traders to expand their businesses.

The initiative according to madam Afo-Toffey were honoured as one of her major 2020 electioneering campaign promises she made to the women in the Jomoro constituency should they vote for her as a member of parliament.

She stated that, the loan scheme will go a along way to provide financial support to the traders in the era of Covid-19 pandemic.

Honourable Dorcas Afo-Toffey speaking to New Day FM journalist, Kaakyire Kwasi Afari, she said, the women assistant Fund is a collaborative initiative with Jomoro Rural Bank to give away interest free loans for 200 women in every month from the Constituency to expand their commercial business.

The Jomoro MP is confident that women empowerment is a gateway to eradicate economy hardships in our society if more women entrepreneurs are given the maximum push and support in their endeavours.

The Lawmaker who is an entrepreneur added that, women’s economic empowerment is one of the world’s most promising areas of investment with almost instant results, that’s, the reduction and eventual eradication of poverty and widespread unemployment which she seeks to embark.

When asked about her role she would play in regards to the loan scheme initiative, the NDC MP said, she will serve as a third party responsible for the payment of the interest on the loan for the women.

“What we are doing is that we have partnered Jomoro Rural Bank and I will pay the interest with part of my monthly salary as a member of parliament. So all the women in this constituency who will get the loan will pay exactly what they requested within six months” she stressed.

Officially, at Bonyere school park on July 18, the member of parliament handed cheques to some selected zonal coordinators for disbursement to two hundred market women to kick start the initiative.

The MP denied assertion the scheme was only opened to members of the National Democratic Congress, insisting it is open for women in general in the constituency.

She started by revealing that she will continue to give these loans to the women in her constituency till every woman gets funds to start or continue her business.

Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, the member of parliament for Ellembelle, Hon. Samuel Akudzato Ablakwa, North Tongu MP, Hon. Kofi Arko Nokoe, Western Regional NDC representatives, Nzema Queen Mothers Association, assembly members were all present at the launching.

Obaahema Awube, on behalf of the Nzema Queen Mothers Association hailed the MP for the financial support for the traders in Jomoro municipal.

She also advised beneficiaries to use the money to work and faithfully pay back in the deadline provided to be used to support others.

The Queen mothers was optimistic that the loan facility will not only empower women in trade, but, also, described it as a timely intervention that will sustain their business to stand the COVID-19 pandemic.
