Jeffery Barima Antwi Donates to Remar Ghana, Calls on Students to Rediscover the Power of Reading

Ghanaian-based American philanthropist, Jeffery Barima Antwi, popularly known as “Oga,” has urged Ghanaian students to rekindle their interest in reading and reduce excessive dependence on social media, describing reading as a vital tool for intellectual growth and academic success.
Mr. Antwi made the call during his annual donation exercise to the Remar Ghana Rehabilitation Centre at Patasi in the Ashanti Region, where he presented assorted items including textbooks, bottled water and second-hand clothing worth thousands of cedis to support the welfare and daily needs of residents at the centre.

According to him, cultivating a strong reading culture plays a crucial role in improving English language proficiency, expanding vocabulary and sharpening critical thinking skills. He noted that although social media has its benefits, excessive reliance on it has contributed to a decline in reading habits among many students, negatively affecting their academic performance and communication abilities.

Speaking in an interview with the media, Jeffery Barima Antwi emphasized that reading broadens the mind and exposes individuals to new ideas and perspectives. He therefore urged students to consciously make time for reading as part of their daily routine, stressing that consistent reading remains key to personal development and lifelong learning.

He further used the opportunity to appeal to stakeholders, corporate institutions and well-meaning individuals to come to the aid of the Remar Ghana Rehabilitation Centre, explaining that sustained support is needed to enable the home to effectively carry out its rehabilitation programmes.

Receiving the items on behalf of the centre, the Secretary of Remar Ghana Rehabilitation Centre, Nana Yaw Sarfo Nkunim, expressed profound appreciation to Mr. Antwi for his continued generosity and commitment to the home.

He noted that the items, valued at thousands of cedis, would significantly ease the operational burden on the centre and improve the living conditions of residents, describing Jeffery Barima Antwi as a reliable partner whose annual donations continue to make a meaningful impact.

Nana Yaw Sarfo Nkunim also appealed to the general public to emulate the gesture by supporting the centre, stressing that collective effort remains crucial to sustaining its mission of rehabilitation and reintegration.
