Jacobu Horror: Man Burns Room, Kills 17-Year-Old Daughter Over Marital Dispute

A shocking and heartbreaking tragedy has struck the community of Asuoso Fenaso near Jacobu in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region, where a 50-year-old man has allegedly set a room on fire, killing his own 17-year-old daughter in the process, following a violent dispute with his wife.

The devastating incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, July 25, 2025, and has left residents in mourning and disbelief. According to eyewitness reports, the suspect became enraged after his wife refused to engage in sexual relations with him. In a horrifying reaction to her rejection, he is said to have taken the drastic and deadly step of setting their home ablaze.

The room where the fire was set was occupied by eight people at the time — including the suspect’s wife, daughter, and other family members. While the others managed to escape the blaze, the 17-year-old girl, who was reportedly asleep at the time, was unable to make it out in time and tragically perished in the flames.

An eyewitness who spoke to OTEC News’ Kwame Agyenim Boateng recounted the traumatic scene:

“Eight people were in the room. The fire started so suddenly. People screamed and ran out, but the young girl was asleep and couldn’t escape. By the time we got there, it was too late.”

The fire spread rapidly, and despite efforts by residents to put it out, it was impossible to rescue the teenager in time. Her lifeless, charred body was later recovered from the debris.

Following the incident, the suspect attempted to commit suicide by drinking a substance believed to be weedicide. However, he was quickly intercepted by some angry youth in the area, who restrained him and prevented him from taking his own life. Tensions quickly escalated as word spread about the death of the girl.

Consumed by rage and grief, some members of the community turned on the suspect and lynched him on the spot before police officers could intervene.

Officers from the Amansie Central District Police Command later arrived at the scene and took both bodies — that of the deceased girl and her father — to the morgue. The police have since launched a full-scale investigation into the incident and the circumstances that led to the lynching of the suspect.

The community of Asuoso Fenaso has been left shaken, with residents struggling to come to terms with the unimaginable loss of a young life and the horrific manner in which it occurred. Local leaders and opinion leaders have condemned the act, describing it as an avoidable tragedy fueled by domestic instability and poor conflict resolution.

“This is one of the darkest days in our community,” said a local elder. “A father, who should be a protector, became the destroyer of his own child’s life. We need urgent education on anger management, domestic violence prevention, and support for troubled families.”

Meanwhile, social welfare and counseling teams have been urged to visit the affected family and community to provide psychosocial support and trauma counseling to survivors and witnesses.

The incident has reignited national conversations around domestic violence, the importance of mental health support, and the urgent need for interventions in rural communities where such tragedies are often overlooked until lives are lost.
