It’s About Time We Bring Sanity And An End To Galamsey In Ghana – Asantehene Tells Government

Otumfour Osei Tutu II has once again sent some messages to the government on the current recent rise of galamsey activities in the country. Speaking to the media on Friday, Otumfour Osei Tutu II made it clear that it is time for government and other stakeholders to sit down and bring an end to galamsey activities in the country.

According to him, even though the government has deployed a lot of security officers to be on guard at various mining sites, some illegal mining activities are still going on in some parts of the country. He believes strongly that there is something hidden from the public which is preventing government to succeed in the fight against galamsey activities.

He added that galamsey activities have always being the practice of some Ghanaians for the past years. However, the kind of equipments being used currently by the miners tend to destroy other natural resources such as water bodies. He urged government to have a full review on mining activities so that illegal mining activities in the country will come to end.

“It is rather unfortunate that it has happened this way. Ghana was known as a gold coast and so on but during that time it wasn’t like the galamsey we are talking about. People were doing galamsey then but unfortunately people are now using equipments and they don’t care about the environment” he said.
