The Asokwa Electoral Area in the Bekwai Municipality has received a major boost in its access to potable water following the commissioning of a mechanized borehole donated by Nana Abena Adomah, daughter of Bekwaimanhemaa, Nana Adwoa Pinamang.

The project, which forms part of the Improving Water Access in Bekwai initiative, was funded solely by Nana Abena Adomah in honour of her mother, the Queenmother of Bekwai, Nana Adwoa Pinamang. The gesture is aimed at easing the persistent water challenges faced by residents of Bekwai and its surrounding communities, who for years have had to travel long distances in search of safe drinking water.

At a brief ceremony to officially hand over the facility, the Assembly Member for Asokwa Tonsuom Electoral Area, Hon. Charles Adu Gyamfi, lauded Nana Abena Adomah for her foresight and benevolence. He described the intervention as timely, adding that it would go a long way to improve the health and wellbeing of residents, especially women and children who bear the brunt of fetching water.

According to him, access to potable water is a key determinant of community development, and the borehole will significantly reduce the daily struggles of residents while contributing to improved sanitation and hygiene practices in the area.

Community members, who could not hide their joy, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Nana Abena Adomah for her commitment to improving living conditions in Bekwai. They pledged to ensure proper maintenance of the facility so that it continues to serve them for many years.

In her remarks, Nana Abena Adomah reaffirmed her dedication to supporting initiatives that address pressing social needs in Bekwai. She explained that her decision to fund the project was influenced by her desire to complement the efforts of the traditional authority, led by her mother, Nana Adwoa Pinamang, and the Bekwai Municipal Assembly in driving development at the grassroots level.

She further hinted that this borehole project is only the beginning of a series of interventions targeted at improving basic amenities in communities across the municipality, stressing her belief that access to water is a fundamental human right that must not be compromised

The commissioning of the borehole has been described by many as a shining example of how individuals, particularly those with roots in local communities, can make a lasting impact on development.

With the new facility in place, the people of Asokwa Electoral Area are optimistic that their long-standing water challenges have been significantly alleviated, marking a new chapter of hope and relief in their daily lives.
