Improve Teacher Motivation to Secure Ghana’s Future – Nana Adu Gyamfi Kumanini Appeals to Government
An influential education advocate and community development leader, Nana Adu Gyamfi Kumanini Barima Kese, has urged the government and key stakeholders in the education sector to make teacher motivation a national priority, emphasizing that Ghana’s future hinges on the wellbeing and commitment of its educators.
Speaking as the chairman at the Afigya Kwabre South Teachers Awards held on Thursday, December 12, 2025, Nana Adu Gyamfi Kumanini expressed deep admiration for the sacrifices and unwavering dedication of teachers across the country. He stressed that despite working under challenging conditions, teachers continue to carry the weight of Ghana’s educational system with diligence and resilience.

According to him, teachers remain the bedrock of national development, and it is impossible for Ghana to achieve its long-term development aspirations without investing meaningfully in their welfare. He noted that inadequate teaching materials, heavy workloads, insufficient remuneration, and limited incentives continue to weaken morale in the profession.

“Our children’s future and the future of this country rest in the hands of teachers,” he said. “If we want to see a better Ghana, then we must provide better conditions, better motivation, and better recognition for our teachers.”

He called on government, traditional authorities, and community leaders to collectively push for improved teacher welfare by ensuring access to modern teaching tools, fair compensation, and increased opportunities for capacity building and professional development.
The Afigya Kwabre South Teachers Awards ceremony celebrated exceptional educators who have distinguished themselves in service delivery, innovation in teaching, and contributions to school and community development. Several teachers were honoured for excellence, commitment, and impact, inspiring others to continue raising academic standards.

Nana Adu Gyamfi Kumanini, who also serves as the Nyankyerenease Nkosuohene and Chief Executive Officer of Shamor Group of Companies, congratulated the award recipients and encouraged them to maintain high standards of professionalism. He urged all teachers to stay committed to shaping students into responsible and capable future leaders.
He further appealed to policymakers to pay close attention to the concerns of teachers and to implement policies that strengthen the teaching profession, noting that the country cannot afford to ignore the vital role educators play in national progress.

The ceremony concluded with renewed calls from participants for increased investment in education, especially in the area of teacher welfare, to ensure sustainable development and a brighter future for Ghana.
