Hundreds Benefit as Businessman Akwasi Owusu ‘Lion’ Donates Food Items and Cash in Akatakyieso

Hundreds of residents of Akatakyieso in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region have benefited from a major humanitarian intervention by businessman and philanthropist, Mr. Michael Akwasi Owusu, popularly known as Lion, who donated food items, clothing, and cash worth millions of Ghana cedis to widows, orphans, the aged, and other vulnerable members of the community.

Mr. Owusu, the Chief Executive Officer of Smart Mickey Mining Company, used the occasion to highlight the importance of collective responsibility in addressing social challenges, stressing that meaningful development can only be achieved when individuals and corporate bodies complement government efforts in key areas such as education, healthcare delivery, security, and social protection.

The donation exercise involved the distribution of bags of rice, cartons of mackerel, packs of chicken, assorted foodstuffs, clothing items, and undisclosed amounts of cash. The items, estimated to be worth millions of Ghana cedis, directly supported hundreds of beneficiaries, with over one thousand residents impacted by the initiative.

Speaking during the presentation, Mr. Akwasi Owusu explained that the gesture formed part of his continuous commitment to improving living conditions at the grassroots level. He described giving back to society as both a moral obligation and a practical means of fostering unity, compassion, and social cohesion within communities.

Beyond the support for vulnerable groups, Mr. Owusu also extended assistance to traditional authorities in Akatakyieso, acknowledging their vital role in promoting peace, stability, and development in the community.

Traditional leaders and residents expressed deep appreciation for the intervention. Nana Nuako Nuamah, Chief of Akatakyieso, commended Mr. Owusu for his sustained commitment to community development, particularly in the areas of education, health, and security. He described the philanthropist as a dependable partner whose generosity continues to uplift lives and inspire hope.
