Hon. Prince Manu Morris Lauds Government’s Smart Workplace Initiative at Amansie West Assembly

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Amansie West, Hon. Prince Manu Morris, has commended the Government of Ghana and the Office of the Head of Local Government Service (OHLGS) for introducing the Smart Workplace System, an innovative digital platform designed to enhance administrative efficiency and reduce the overreliance on paper in the operations of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
The commendation came during a training session held at the Amansie West District Assembly Hall, where staff members were taken through a comprehensive orientation on the effective use of the Smart Workplace System. The training was part of a national initiative by the OHLGS to promote a paperless work environment and digital transformation within the Local Government Service.

In his address, Hon. Prince Manu Morris described the introduction of the Smart Workplace initiative as a bold and visionary step by the government to modernize public sector administration and improve service delivery at the local level. He stated that the digital system would significantly enhance workflow, ensure proper record management, and minimize bureaucratic delays in decision-making processes.

“This government initiative will go a long way to make our work more efficient,” the DCE said. “It will help us save money that would otherwise be used to import papers, reduce the risk of missing files, and save valuable time spent on manual administrative tasks. I want to thank the Government and the OHLGS for taking this bold step to digitalize our assemblies.”

Hon. Manu Morris further urged the OHLGS and the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development to extend the training to all MMDAs across the country. He emphasized that every assembly should be equipped with the requisite digital knowledge to operate effectively within a modern governance framework.

The DCE encouraged staff of the Amansie West Assembly to fully embrace the system and apply the skills acquired from the training to improve communication, accountability, and service delivery.

Speaking at the training, Mr.District Coordinating Director, highlighted that the Smart Workplace System was designed to promote efficiency, transparency, and accountability in the Local Government Service. He explained that the new system eliminates the traditional paper-based filing system and replaces it with a digital platform that allows for seamless correspondence, document sharing, and approval processes.

“The Smart Workplace is not just a technological shift; it is a change in mindset towards a more efficient, transparent, and results-oriented public service,” Mr. Haligah said. “Staff will now be able to send memos, request approvals, and communicate internally without printing or photocopying documents.”

Participants of the training were introduced to several key components of the system, including electronic memo and correspondence management, electronic leave applications, announcement applications, and online meeting scheduling features. The training session was facilitated by experts from the OHLGS and supported by consultants from the Local Government Service’s technical team.

A member of the consulting team, Mr. Frank Kwame Kontor, explained that the Smart Workplace System serves as a virtual office environment that allows staff to work and collaborate efficiently without the constraints of physical paperwork. He noted that the system has already been successfully implemented at the OHLGS headquarters, leading to improved performance and significant cost savings.

“The Smart Workplace platform is built to make work faster, smarter, and more reliable,” Mr. Kontor stated. “It enhances communication, supports teamwork, and ensures secure storage of official documents. I encourage all staff to adopt it and share their feedback for continuous improvement.”

Some of the Assembly staff who participated in the training expressed their excitement about the new development, describing it as a transformative step towards modern governance. They pledged to use the system effectively to ensure improved service delivery to the people of Amansie West.

The Smart Workplace Initiative marks a major milestone in Ghana’s digital governance journey, reflecting government’s commitment to building a modern, transparent, and technology-driven public service that meets the demands of a fast-changing world.
