Hon. Maxwell Doffour Invests Over GH¢8,000 in NHIS Exercise to Boost Healthcare Access in Kumawu Woraso

In a remarkable display of community-centered leadership, the Assembly Member for Kumawu Woraso in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Maxwell Amponsah Doffour, has invested over GH¢8,000 to sponsor a comprehensive National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration and renewal exercise for residents within his electoral area.
The exercise, which took place over the weekend, brought together hundreds of residents, including the aged, women, children, and low-income earners, who turned out in their numbers to renew or register their NHIS cards. The initiative aimed to ensure that every resident of Kumawu Woraso enjoys uninterrupted access to quality healthcare without financial barriers.

Organized in collaboration with the Sekyere Kumawu District Office of the NHIS, the exercise covered both registration and renewal fees as well as operational logistics. NHIS officials worked alongside the Assembly Member’s team to ensure a smooth and efficient process that left many residents expressing deep gratitude.

Speaking to the media during the exercise, Hon. Maxwell Doffour explained that the initiative was driven by his desire to improve healthcare accessibility in his community and to promote the overall well-being of his constituents. According to him, many residents had been unable to renew their NHIS cards for years due to financial constraints, a situation that often left them struggling to access medical care when they needed it most.

“This initiative is my way of making sure no one in Kumawu Woraso is denied healthcare because they cannot afford to pay for NHIS renewal,” he said. “The health of my people is my priority, and I believe this is one of the most effective ways to support them. When people are healthy, they can work, take care of their families, and contribute to the development of the community.”

Hon. Doffour noted that the exercise forms part of his broader social intervention agenda aimed at addressing key challenges in health, education, and social welfare within his electoral area. He emphasized that leadership is not about occupying a position but about identifying and meeting the pressing needs of the people one serves.

He also assured residents that the NHIS exercise would not be a one-time event but part of a continuous effort to improve living conditions across Kumawu Woraso. “This is only the beginning,” he said. “My vision is to make Kumawu Woraso a model community where access to healthcare, education, and social amenities is guaranteed for all.”

Residents who participated in the exercise lauded Hon. Maxwell Doffour for his generosity and selfless leadership. They described the intervention as timely and life-saving, especially for families who have long struggled to afford healthcare. Many noted that the initiative had not only eased their financial burden but also renewed their hope in effective grassroots leadership.

The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) remains one of Ghana’s most significant social protection policies, ensuring that citizens, regardless of their economic status, have access to essential healthcare services. Hon. Doffour’s initiative aligns perfectly with this national objective, reinforcing efforts to achieve universal health coverage and improve health outcomes at the community level.

The exercise concluded successfully, with hundreds of residents walking away relieved and inspired by the Assembly Member’s compassionate leadership. The atmosphere was filled with joy and appreciation as community members expressed their satisfaction with the initiative and pledged their continuous support for Hon. Doffour.

Through his visionary leadership and commitment to public welfare, Hon. Maxwell Amponsah Doffour has once again demonstrated what it means to lead with purpose, compassion, and integrity. His investment in the health of his people stands as a testament to his unwavering dedication to building a healthier, stronger, and more united Kumawu Woraso.
