Hon. Frank Yeboah Pledges to Revive Owabi Dam and Wildlife Sanctuary to Boost Tourism in Atwima Nwabiagya North

The Member of Parliament for Atwima Nwabiagya North, Hon. Frank Yeboah, has made a strong commitment to restore and revitalize two of the district’s once prominent tourist attractions — the Owabi Dam and the Owabi Wildlife Sanctuary. Speaking at a recent community meeting, Hon. Yeboah expressed concern over the current state of these sites, which have significantly lost their appeal and functionality as tourist destinations over the years.

Hon. Yeboah reminded constituents that the Owabi Dam and Wildlife Sanctuary were once renowned for their natural beauty and ecological significance, drawing tourists, nature lovers, and researchers to the district. These sites not only served as important centers for recreation and environmental education but also contributed meaningfully to the local economy through tourism-driven businesses and job creation.

However, according to the MP, the decline in maintenance, lack of investment, and limited government support have resulted in a deterioration of facilities and a steep drop in visitor numbers. “It is disheartening to see these valuable natural resources and tourist centers fall into neglect when they hold so much potential to boost our local economy and enhance community livelihoods,” Hon. Yeboah said.

To reverse this trend, Hon. Frank Yeboah has officially petitioned the Minister of Tourism and relevant authorities, urging them to provide urgent support to rehabilitate and modernize the Owabi Dam and Wildlife Sanctuary. He revealed that the Minister has acknowledged the petition and assured him of government intervention to help restore these attractions.

The MP outlined plans to collaborate with environmental experts, local stakeholders, and government agencies to develop a comprehensive restoration and management strategy. This strategy aims to improve infrastructure, enhance security, promote eco-friendly tourism activities, and preserve the rich biodiversity of the sanctuary.

Hon. Yeboah emphasized that the revival of these sites will create significant opportunities for the district by attracting tourists, generating revenue, and creating jobs in sectors such as hospitality, transportation, and local crafts. He appealed to the residents of Atwima Nwabiagya North to support this initiative by maintaining the cleanliness and security of the sites once rehabilitated.

The community has welcomed the MP’s promise with optimism, hopeful that the revival of Owabi Dam and the Wildlife Sanctuary will restore the district’s status as a preferred tourist destination and drive sustainable economic development.

As preparations for the restoration project move forward, all stakeholders look forward to a new chapter where Owabi’s natural treasures regain their rightful place at the heart of Atwima Nwabiagya North’s tourism landscape.
