The Queen Wilhelmina Educational Complex at Star Junction, located in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti Region, is crying out for help as persistent noise pollution disrupts their academic activities. The headteacher, staff, and students are urging the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Kwadaso Municipal Assembly to intervene and address the issue.
According to the headmaster, Emmanuel Agyei Adomako, the noise pollution stems from a resident, Kennedy Asante, popularly known as Nana Asante. Mr. Asante, who resides abroad but occasionally returns to Ghana, is said to play excessively loud music from his residence near the school, disturbing lessons and making it difficult for students to concentrate.
“Anytime Mr. Asante is back in town, the noise begins. The loud music makes it almost impossible for teachers to conduct lessons or for students to focus. We’ve tried reaching out to him, but he refuses to listen to our concerns,” the Headmaster explained.
A Persistent Problem
The teaching staff of the school describe the situation as a deliberate attempt to disrupt the school’s operations. Speaking to Sompa FM’s reporter, Bawah Baidoo, they expressed frustration over their inability to resolve the matter despite years of complaints.
“He has been doing this for years. The volume of his music is so high that teaching becomes impossible. We believe he has no regard for the education of the pupils,” one teacher lamented.
Another teacher added, “This is not just a disturbance; it’s a deliberate attempt to collapse the school. We are pleading with the authorities to take action before the situation gets out of hand.”
Pupils Call for Help
The students, who are directly affected, also shared their concerns, pleading with authorities to take swift action.
“We can’t concentrate during lessons because of the noise. It’s affecting our education, and we are begging the government to help us,” one of the pupils said.
An Urgent Appeal to Authorities
The school community is calling on the GES and the Kwadaso Municipal Assembly to intervene immediately and restore a conducive learning environment.
Efforts by Sompa FM to reach Mr. Asante for his response have so far been unsuccessful.
