At a short ceremony to hand over the furniture to the schools, the Chief said the presentation was to meet the requirements of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to maintain the newly created examination centre in the area.

The beneficiary schools include Gwira Banso M/A JHS, Asonti JHS, SDA JHS and Valley View JHS.

The students of Gwira Banso and the adjourning communities over the years have had to travel for about a three-hour journey to Bamianko in the Nzema East before they can get to the examination centre to write their BECE exams.

The children on their way to Bamianko, most times are involved in a road accident and this has been happening every year due to the bad nature of the road network in the area.

So whenever they begin to prepare for the BECE exams, fear grips them because of the fear that they would also be involved in an accident.

Apart from the fear of engaging in an accident, the BECE exams also became expensive to the parents due to the amount of money they would spend before their wards can get to the centre to write their exams.

This, however, became a burden to the Chief because it influences their performance, So, the Chief in his efforts to address the situation began to engage the stakeholders to get the community an examination centre so that the children will no longer go through those stress and challenges during the period of writing BECE exams.

The chief was later asked to provide proper furniture for the school, which was accepted to be used as a centre for the BECE exams. He was also asked to provide furniture to the other schools to stop them from using cement blocks in classrooms to improve the quality of education in the area.

So, it was upon this requirement that Nana Ette Akrade II with the support of SAMATEX Timber Firm provided the four schools with dual and mono desks.

Nana Ette Akrade II was joined by the Paramount Chief of Gwira Traditional Council, Awulae Angama Tuagyan II, Queen mother of Gwira Banso and other traditional leaders in the area.

Presenting the furniture to the Headteacher of Asonti JHS, Nana Amoakwa III, the Chief of Gwira Banso, Nana Ette Akrade II admonished the pupil to discipline themselves to ensure the furniture are kept in good condition.

He also urged the pupils to study hard to pass the exams and refrain from taking foreign materials to the examination centre.

The Head Teacher of Asonti JHS, Nana Amoakwa III, who received the furniture on behalf of the schools thanked the chief for the kind gesture.

He mentioned some difficulties the students go through during the BECE period.

The Assembly member of Gwira Banso Electoral Area, Ama Tabuah, who also presented Mathematical sets to the BECE candidates also commended the Chief for his vision to improve quality education in the area.

She complained about the unavailability of a communication network and a bad road network, saying the challenges have prevented national service personnel who were posted to the area to stay.

She called on the government to help them address those challenges to improve quality education and healthcare delivery in the area.
