Groom Arrived at His Wedding in a Coffin Carried by the Bridesmaids and Internet is Fuming. “Disrespectful!”

A groom has found himself in hot water right at the start of his marriage, thanks to what might be considered an ill-judged joke on his wedding day. The groom thought it would be amusing to arrive at his own wedding in a coffin carried by the bridesmaids, clearly, a nod to the whole “marriage means your life is over” trope.

“Is this a funeral? No this is how my friend decided to walk down the aisle,” a wedding guest captioned the video, which he posted on TikTok. The video has since gone viral—here is what people are saying about the groom and their advice for the bride.

A Normal Wedding

Video of the incident shows what looks like a completely normal wedding party. Bridesmaids and groomsmen all look polished and appropriate, in gray suits and blue dresses. There is nothing to indicate the wedding will be anything other than just a normal event following the usual wedding protocol. That is, until the groom arrives.

The Groom Arrives

The car carrying the groom arrives at the wedding—and he’s apparently in a coffin. After getting the coffin out of the car, the poor bridesmaids and groomsmen are tasked with the difficult duty of carrying a full-grown man into the wedding, something they clearly struggle with. It’s unclear how much they were told to expect from this stunt.

Down the Aisle

In most weddings, the groom is standing at the altar waiting for his bride to walk down the aisle. Not so for this groom—the wedding party actually carries the coffin all the way down the aisle, where it was set down in front of the altar. A photographer is taking pictures the whole time because clearly, this is something the bride and groom want to remember for the rest of their lives.

Rising From the Coffin

After the coffin was placed in front of the altar, the groom, wearing a white blazer and black tie, decided it was time to make his appearance. The man rose from the casket in front of the wedding officiant, who looked clearly surprised (as well she might). The bride is nowhere to be seen in the video, so we can’t tell what her reaction is.

We don’t know how the bride reacted, but the public reaction was overwhelmingly negative. “We would be divorced before we said I do,” said one commenter. “I have the deepest ick. Would have left immediately,” said another. “I would literally cancel the wedding,” said a third. “The disrespect, the audacity,” said another. There was one commenter who had a different viewpoint, saying, “I actually thought this was kinda cute. I interpret it as like, ‘I was dead before I met you'” or “my life didn’t truly start until I met you.'”
