The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has restored normal operations on the national transmission network following a fault that temporarily disrupted power supply to parts of the Northern, Middle, and Western Regions.

The incident occurred on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 3:16 p.m., when a fault developed on sections of the transmission system, triggering a disturbance that interrupted electricity supply in several areas.
GRIDCo responded immediately, mobilising technical teams to carry out coordinated restoration works. The efforts proved successful, with the National Interconnected Transmission System (NITS) fully restored at 8:09 p.m. the same day.
In a statement, GRIDCo reassured the public that continuous measures are being implemented to strengthen the reliability and resilience of the transmission network. The Company emphasised that these interventions are aimed at minimising the recurrence of such incidents and ensuring a stable power supply nationwide.
The Company expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to affected customers and stakeholders and thanked them for their patience and understanding during the restoration process.
GRIDCo, incorporated in December 2006 and operational since August 2008, is responsible for the economic dispatching and transmission of electricity from wholesale suppliers—including Independent Power Producers (IPPs)—to bulk customers and distribution utilities across Ghana and West Africa. The Company operates the National Interconnected Transmission System, transmitting electricity to over thirty bulk customers from eleven wholesale suppliers, including the Volta River Authority (VRA).
