Government’s Nkokɔnkitinkiti Programme Gains Momentum in Asante Akim Central with 10,000 Chicks Distribution

The Asante Akim Central Municipal Assembly has taken a major step in strengthening the local poultry industry by distributing a total of 10,000 day-old Nkokɔnkitinkiti chicks to selected beneficiary farmers. The initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to revitalise poultry production, enhance food security, and promote agribusiness development at the grassroots level.

The distribution exercise, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), brought together officials of the Municipal Assembly, officers from the Municipal Department of Agriculture, and farmers from various communities across the municipality. Each beneficiary received 30 chicks, carefully selected to ensure equitable participation and maximum impact.

Addressing the gathering, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Rev. Ebenezer Ekow Aidoo, emphasized the importance of proper care and management of the chicks to ensure the programme’s success. He explained that the initiative aims not only to boost domestic poultry production but also to increase household incomes, create employment opportunities for the youth and small-scale farmers, and reduce Ghana’s reliance on imported poultry products.

Hon. Rev. Ekow Aidoo urged farmers to adhere strictly to best poultry management practices, including proper feeding, adequate housing, effective sanitation, and timely administration of medication. He warned that negligence or poor handling could undermine the programme’s objectives and waste the significant government investment.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Municipal Director of Agriculture, Madam Martha Ashami Armah, encouraged farmers to fully utilize the technical guidance provided by agricultural extension officers. She highlighted the need for close collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, particularly in disease prevention, feeding regimes, and overall farm management.

Madam Martha Ashami Armah noted that the Nkokɔnkitinkiti programme represents a strategic intervention to revitalize Ghana’s poultry sector and strengthen local food production. She expressed confidence that with proper management and adherence to recommended practices, the initiative would significantly increase poultry output within the Asante Akim Central Municipality.

Beneficiary farmers expressed gratitude to the government and the Municipal Assembly for the timely support. They described the intervention as crucial in expanding their poultry businesses, enhancing incomes, and improving livelihoods. The farmers pledged to responsibly manage the chicks and follow best farming practices to ensure the programme’s long-term success and its contribution to national food security.

Through this intervention, the Asante Akim Central Municipal Assembly has reinforced its commitment to empowering local farmers, promoting sustainable agriculture, and fostering economic growth at the community level.
