The Government of Ghana has officially announced the burial arrangements for two prominent Muslim officials who tragically lost their lives in last Wednesday’s helicopter crash at Adansi-Brofoyedu in the Ashanti Region.

In a statement from the Presidency, it was confirmed that the burial rites for Dr. Ibrahim Muhammed Murtala, the late Minister for Environment, Technology and Innovation, and Alhaji Munir Limuna Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, will take place on Sunday, August 10, 2025, in strict accordance with Islamic traditions and customs.
The solemn ceremonies will commence with the Muslim Jannaza prayers at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra at exactly 2:00 p.m., led by respected Islamic clerics and attended by family members, government officials, and members of the public. Immediately after the prayers, the remains of the two leaders will be conveyed to the Military Cemetery in Accra, where the burial will take place at 2:30 p.m.
Dr. Murtala and Alhaji Limuna were among eight people who perished in the devastating helicopter crash while on a national assignment to Obuasi. The tragic incident, which sent shockwaves across the country, occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, claiming the lives of high-profile government and military officials.
Also on board the ill-fated aircraft were the Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; National Vice-Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Sarpong; Deputy NADMO Director-General, Samuel Aboagye; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, the pilot; Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, the co-pilot; and Sergeant Ernest Addo-Mensah, a crew member. Sadly, all on board were confirmed dead.
The government has assured the public that it is working closely with aviation authorities and investigators to determine the exact cause of the crash, while arrangements are being made to honour the memory of all victims.
Sunday’s burial is expected to attract a large gathering of mourners, including President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Professor Jane Naana OPOKU Agyemang and members of the Council of State, senior government officials, Members of Parliament, political party leaders, traditional authorities, and the diplomatic community. Security will be heightened around the State House and the Military Cemetery to ensure smooth proceedings.
The Presidency has called on the nation to keep the bereaved families in their prayers, describing Dr. Murtala and Alhaji Limuna as “dedicated public servants who worked tirelessly for the good of Ghana until their untimely passing.”
