Go for Screening Early to Prevent Cervical Cancer — Health Professionals Advise Women in Ejisu

Health professionals at the Mansa Memorial Hospital at Akyawkrom in the Ejisu Municipal of the Ashanti Region have urged women to undergo regular cervical cancer screening as an effective way of preventing the disease through early detection.
A Senior Midwife at the facility, Madam Akua Nyarko Antwi, explained that cervical cancer remains one of the leading causes of death among women, largely due to late diagnosis. She stressed that early screening makes the disease highly preventable and significantly improves treatment outcomes.

Madam Antwi made the call during a free cervical cancer screening exercise organised by the Mansa Memorial Hospital in collaboration with the Prince Asamany Foundation at Akyewkrom. The exercise formed part of broader efforts to educate women on the importance of preventive healthcare and early diagnosis.

She advised women not to wait until symptoms appear before seeking medical attention, noting that cervical cancer often shows no early signs. She therefore encouraged women, particularly those of reproductive age, to make routine screening an essential part of their healthcare practices.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of the Prince Asamany Foundation, Mr. Prince Asamany, described the foundation as a community-focused humanitarian organisation committed to improving lives through health, education and social support. He said the foundation remains dedicated to protecting families, empowering women and saving lives.
Mr. Asamany stated that the goal of the initiative was to create awareness, remove fear and misconceptions surrounding cervical cancer, and make early screening accessible to women in the community. He emphasised that access to basic healthcare and timely health information should be available to everyone, regardless of background or financial status.

On his part, the Administrator of the Mansa Memorial Hospital, Mr. Emmanuel Oti Agyekum, reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to women’s health and preventive care. He disclosed that the hospital organises free health screening programmes for women on the last day of every month.

Mr. Agyekum added that the facility regularly engages qualified health professionals with expertise in cervical cancer screening to ensure accurate diagnosis and quality care delivery. He encouraged women in Akyewkrom and surrounding communities to take advantage of the initiative and prioritise their health.
