The Ghana National Union of Technical Students (GNUTS) has expressed deep concern and relief following a road accident involving the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, and other government officials on February 12.
In a press release issued and signed by its President, Gati Delali Kofi, the Union extended its heartfelt prayers and well wishes to the Minister and all other officials involved in the unfortunate incident. GNUTS acknowledged the dedication and commitment of the Minister and his team to national development, particularly in advancing Ghana’s education sector.
According to the statement, the Minister and his entourage were en route to the Upper West Region to participate in the 40th Anniversary celebrations of Tumu College of Education and Jahan College of Education when the accident occurred. The Union noted that the Minister’s mission underscored his unwavering commitment to supporting teacher education and strengthening institutions in the region.
GNUTS also commended the prompt and professional response of the Ghana National Ambulance Service, whose swift intervention ensured that those involved received immediate medical attention. The Union described the emergency response as exemplary and deserving of national recognition.
While expressing relief that lives were spared, GNUTS used the occasion to renew its call for urgent improvements to Ghana’s road infrastructure, particularly inter-regional highways. The Union appealed to the Ministry of Roads and Highways to intensify efforts to asphalt and properly construct major inter-regional roads to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The statement further called on Ghanaian students across the country to offer prayers and solidarity to the affected ministers and officials, expressing hope for their speedy recovery and return to active service.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families. We remain hopeful for their swift return to good health and continued service to our beloved nation,” the release emphasized.
