GNAG President Applauds Ashanti Regional Chairman Luqman for Transformational Leadership

The President of the Ghana National Association of Garages (GNAG), Odeneho Nana Oppong Barima, has lauded the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the association, Alhaji Mohammed Luqman Nuhu Appiedu, for his visionary and impactful leadership that is steadily transforming the face of the auto mechanic industry in the region.

Speaking at a high-level meeting held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at the National Headquarters Annex of GNAG located at Oye’s Court in East Legon, Accra, Odeneho Nana Oppong Barima praised Chairman Luqman for his hard work, innovation, and commitment to the growth of the association, especially within the Suame Magazine enclave in Kumasi.

Alhaji Luqman, who is approaching his second anniversary as the Ashanti Regional Chairman, has already recorded remarkable achievements that have earned him both local and national recognition. His tenure has seen a revival in the activities of the garages in Kumasi, bringing structure, training, safety, and modernization to the sprawling Suame Magazine – one of West Africa’s largest industrial hubs.

Recently, Chairman Luqman was named Most Performing Regional Garages Chairman of the Year at the prestigious 2025 Spotlight Ghana Awards, where his private enterprise, Luqman Engineering Services and Training Center, also won the Best Mechanical Engineering Services of the Year award.

During the meeting, Chairman Luqman presented his two awards to the GNAG President as a gesture of appreciation and solidarity. The GNAG President received the awards with pride, expressing confidence in Luqman’s leadership as a model worth emulating across all the regions.

> “Chairman Luqman is not only working but making a huge difference. From capacity building to innovation, he is showing what true leadership can achieve. We are proud of him,” Odeneho Nana Oppong Barima remarked.

Under his stewardship, Chairman Luqman has led several impactful initiatives including:

Organising periodic training programmes for auto mechanics to enhance skills and safety practices.

Overseeing the complete renovation of the Garages Head Office in Kumasi to a more functional state.

Procuring CCTV cameras to enhance security within the garage office premises.

Partnering with tech firm Conquer I.T to launch the Ghana Garages App, a digital solution aimed at improving communication and business operations among artisans.

Launching a unique auto-mechanic radio programme dubbed “GARAGES HOUR” which airs every Sunday evening on OTEC 102.9 FM from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.

Furthermore, Chairman Luqman is spearheading the decongestion of the road network within the Suame Magazine enclave to improve mobility and create a safer, more business-friendly environment.

In line with his development agenda, he is also collaborating closely with the newly appointed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Suame, Hon. Frank Owusu Ansah, and other stakeholders to renovate and upgrade the Magazine Hospital. The plan includes equipping the facility with the necessary personnel and logistics to deliver efficient healthcare services to artisans and the wider community.

Additionally, procurement processes are underway to acquire fire tenders and more CCTV cameras to bolster safety and security within the enclave.

Chairman Luqman’s inclusive leadership style and proactive approach to problem-solving have earned him admiration not only from his peers within the garages fraternity but also from political leaders, development partners, and the general public.

As he continues to push for reforms and infrastructure development in the region, his efforts remain a shining example of how leadership at the grassroots can drive national progress. The GNAG President’s endorsement serves as a significant vote of confidence and a call to action for other regional heads to emulate the Ashanti Region’s model of effective leadership and innovation.
