GIZ Invest for Jobs Supports Ashanti TVET Directorate to Train Female Engineers and Artisans

In a strategic collaboration aimed at empowering young women and promoting gender inclusivity in Ghana’s technical workforce, the Ashanti Regional Directorate of the Ghana TVET Service has partnered with GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) under the Invest for Jobs programme to launch the “Female Talents in Construction Project”. This initiative is designed to equip female engineers and artisans with the technical skills, professional certification, and practical industry experience needed to thrive in the construction sector.

The programme specifically targets young women aged 15 to 35 years who are residents of the Ashanti Region, whether they are fresh graduates in engineering or TVET disciplines or currently employed in construction companies seeking to upgrade their skills. Trade areas covered under the project include Building Construction, Plumbing, Tiling, Electricals and Solar Installation, Woodwork, Welding and Fabrication, Heavy-Duty Operations, and Structural Painting.

According to the Ashanti Regional TVET Director, the initiative is part of the region’s broader strategy to promote women’s participation in technical fields traditionally dominated by men. “Through this project, we are giving young women the opportunity to demonstrate their potential in engineering and construction. It is about providing skills, building confidence, and challenging societal stereotypes,” the Director stated.

The six-month intensive training programme is structured to combine two months of classroom-based theoretical instruction with four months of practical industry attachment in reputable construction firms. This model ensures participants gain not only technical knowledge but also practical experience, making them highly employable in both local and international markets.

A significant benefit of the programme is the opportunity for participants to earn the German DIHK–C Certification, an internationally recognized qualification that enhances career prospects. In addition to technical expertise, participants will also acquire critical soft skills, including communication, leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving, essential for professional growth in a competitive industry.

The programme also welcomes existing employees of construction firms, encouraging them to upgrade their technical skills and improve career advancement opportunities. Eligibility requires participants to be residents of the Ashanti Region and possess a Certificate II or higher qualification from any accredited engineering or TVET institution.

Applications for the initiative are open online at https://forms.gle/CBasMov7sMJGUTFC9, with a submission deadline of November 17, 2025. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to gain direct employment or be placed in industry roles upon successful completion of the training.

The “Female Talents in Construction Project” is not only a training and employment initiative but also a critical step towards transforming Ghana’s construction sector by promoting gender equality, skill development, and sustainable economic empowerment for women.

Through this partnership, the Ashanti Regional TVET Directorate and GIZ Invest for Jobs are creating a future where young women in engineering and technical trades are equipped, confident, and ready to build the nation’s infrastructure — one skilled artisan at a time.
