GIADEC Inaugurates 19-Member Committee to Deepen Community Engagement in Nyinahin Bauxite Project

The Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) has inaugurated a 19-member Community Relations Committee to strengthen stakeholder engagement and address community-related concerns associated with the Nyinahin bauxite mining project in the Atwima Mponua District.

The inauguration ceremony, held at Nyinahin, brought together traditional leaders, government agencies, security services, civil society organizations, and representatives of affected communities. The newly formed committee is expected to serve as a vital link between GIADEC and the local population, ensuring open communication, transparency, and proactive resolution of challenges arising from mining activities.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of GIADEC, Dr. Richmond Antwi Badiako, emphasized the corporation’s commitment to building strong relationships with host communities as Ghana advances its integrated aluminium industry agenda. He described the committee as a key mechanism for deepening dialogue, fostering trust, and ensuring that development benefits reach residents within the mining catchment area.

The 19-member committee comprises representatives from traditional authorities, religious institutions, women groups, affected communities, the Information Services Department, the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI), the Ghana Police Service, Non-Governmental Organizations, and civil society bodies.

In his acceptance remarks, the Chairman of the Community Relations Committee, Mr. Harun Adam Babajida, expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in the committee. He called on GIADEC to maintain transparency and honesty in its dealings, stressing that mutual trust remains crucial for achieving lasting cooperation and ensuring the people of Atwima Mponua benefit meaningfully from the project.

Mr. Babajida also appealed to GIADEC to allocate at least 30 percent of job opportunities to residents within the mining communities. According to him, prioritizing local employment will boost community inclusion, enhance economic empowerment, and strengthen public support for the project.

The establishment of the Community Relations Committee marks a major step in GIADEC’s efforts to promote responsible mining, safeguard community interests, and ensure that the Nyinahin bauxite project contributes to sustainable development in the Atwima Mponua District.
