Ghana Health Service has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the country’s healthcare system while advancing women’s leadership in medicine, Deputy Director-General Dr. Caroline Reindorf Amissah has stated.

Delivering remarks at the Operation Smile Women in Medicine International Conference in Accra, Dr. Reindorf Amissah underscored the Service’s strategic focus on addressing Ghana’s evolving health needs, including the burden of infectious diseases, the rising incidence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and growing mental health concerns.

She emphasized that achieving sustainable health outcomes requires a dual commitment to clinical excellence and compassionate, patient-centered care, noting that both are essential pillars of a responsive and resilient health system.

The conference, which convened healthcare professionals, policymakers, and global health advocates, serves as a platform to promote leadership, collaboration, and capacity-building among women in medicine. Discussions centered on equipping women with the skills, networks, and opportunities needed to thrive in leadership roles across the healthcare sector.

Dr. Reindorf Amissah highlighted the indispensable contributions of women to healthcare delivery and reiterated the need to expand their representation at decision-making levels. She stressed that inclusive leadership is critical to improving health outcomes and ensuring that healthcare systems reflect the diverse populations they serve.

According to her, the Ghana Health Service has intensified efforts to support the professional advancement of women through targeted mentorship programmes, continuous training, and structured career development initiatives. These interventions, she noted, are designed to empower female health professionals to assume leadership positions and drive innovation within the sector.

Her remarks reaffirm the Ghana Health Service’s broader commitment to building an equitable, inclusive, and high-performing healthcare system capable of meeting both current and future challenges.
