GHC 1.2 Million Theft: Prestea Court Remands Hon. Alex Yaw Baako’s Son and Accomplice

The Prestea District Magistrate Court has remanded into prison custody Clement Baako, son of Hon. Dr. Alex Yaw Baako — popularly known as Nana Aboroso — and his accomplice, Issifu Razak, over the alleged theft of GHC 1.2 million.

Presided over by His Worship Iddi Adama, the court heard that the suspects had already pleaded guilty to the charge during their initial appearance. The two were first remanded for three weeks as police commenced investigations into the case, and after a follow-up court sitting today, they have been further remanded for two more weeks. Their next court appearance has been scheduled for June 24, 2025.

According to Chief Inspector Larweh, the prosecutor, the GHC 1.2 million allegedly stolen was personal money belonging to Hon. Dr. Alex Yaw Baako, the elected Assembly Member for the Prestea Himan Electoral Area in the Western Region.

The revelation that Hon. Baako’s own son is at the center of this high-profile theft has left the Prestea community in deep shock. The stolen amount, which is equivalent to 12 billion old Ghana cedis, was reportedly intended for local development projects and community welfare interventions.

The incident has not only triggered emotional reactions within Hon. Baako’s family but has also stirred strong responses from residents, many of whom described the case as a tragic betrayal of trust. Some expressed disbelief that such a scandal could touch the household of a man known for his honesty, development vision, and service to the community.

In a dramatic scene outside the courthouse, residents and media personnel gathered in large numbers to witness the suspects being escorted back into custody under heavy police protection. The courtroom was packed as tension rose during the short but intense proceedings.

Though Hon. Baako has chosen not to speak publicly, sources close to him say he is devastated by the development but is allowing the legal system to handle the matter without interference. He is also said to be cooperating fully with the police and court to ensure a transparent investigation.

As the case continues to unfold, many in Prestea and surrounding communities are closely following updates, hoping that justice will be served swiftly and fairly — regardless of the family connection between the accused and the complainant.
