“Ghanaian Teachers Deserve Better” – Nana Adu Gyamfi Kumanini Calls for Urgent Improvement in Teacher Welfare
An outspoken education advocate and community development leader, Nana Adu Gyamfi Kumanini Barima Kese, has made a passionate call for immediate and sustained improvements in the welfare of Ghanaian teachers, stressing that national development cannot be achieved without prioritizing those who shape the country’s human capital.

Delivering his address as chairman at the Afigya Kwabre South Teachers Awards held on Thursday, December 12, 2025, Nana Adu Gyamfi Kumanini commended teachers for their resilience and unwavering dedication to duty despite persistent challenges in the teaching profession. He praised educators for continuously holding the country’s educational system together even in the face of inadequate resources, heavy workloads, and limited motivation.

According to him, the vision of a prosperous and progressive Ghana will remain unattainable if teachers—the individuals he described as “the backbone of national transformation”—continue to operate under difficult and demoralizing conditions.

“Teachers shape the future of our children and the destiny of our country. They deserve better conditions, better motivation, and better appreciation,” he emphasized. He urged government, traditional leaders, and community partners to prioritize teacher welfare as a major pillar in national development efforts.

Nana Adu Gyamfi Kumanini called for improved remuneration, access to modern teaching tools, and increased opportunities for continuous professional development. He explained that empowering teachers with the right incentives and resources will not only elevate teaching standards but also enhance the performance and confidence of students across the nation.
The Afigya Kwabre South Teachers Awards ceremony honoured outstanding educators who have excelled in teaching, demonstrated innovation, and contributed meaningfully to the development of their schools and communities. The celebration highlighted the critical role teachers play in shaping responsible citizens and building strong, educated communities.

As the Nyankyerenease Nkosuohene and Chief Executive Officer of Shamor Group of Companies, Nana Adu Gyamfi Kumanini encouraged the award-winning teachers to continue demonstrating excellence. He also urged all teachers to remain committed to nurturing disciplined and visionary future leaders despite the challenges they face.
He further appealed to policymakers to listen closely to the concerns of teachers and to take bold, practical steps to address them. He stressed that meaningful investment in teacher welfare is essential for sustaining quality education and ensuring a brighter future for Ghana.

The event closed with renewed calls from participants for stronger government investment in education, particularly in providing better welfare, recognition, and support for teachers across the country.
