The Ghana Medical Trust Fund has officially embarked on a strategic partnership with the Alliance for Health Financing in Africa (AHFIA), aimed at strengthening the Fund’s long-term sustainability and enhancing access to specialised healthcare services across Ghana.

The partnership was formally inaugurated during the first official kick-off meeting between the Fund and the senior leadership team of AHFIA. The meeting brought together key stakeholders to chart a roadmap for building a resilient, transparent, and sustainable national health financing system.

The AHFIA delegation, led by Pamela Addo, Axum Lead for West Africa, along with Jonathan Munge and Miriam Odonkor, met with the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Obuobia Darko-Opoku, and the Fund’s senior staff to discuss strategies for ensuring operational efficiency and financial sustainability.

AHFIA, an Axum-led initiative, focuses on strengthening health financing systems across Africa through policy advocacy, resource mobilisation, and support to governments in establishing resilient, domestically anchored financing frameworks.

Under this collaboration, AHFIA will provide strategic and technical support to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund. Key areas of focus include the development of a comprehensive resource mobilisation strategy, enhancement of governance and operational systems, and national advocacy campaigns to build awareness and public trust in the Fund. The partnership will also strengthen monitoring and evaluation systems to ensure long-term impact and sustainability.

Administrator Obuobia Darko-Opoku emphasized that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to improving Ghana’s healthcare financing landscape. “Together, we are laying the foundation for expanded access to specialised healthcare for every Ghanaian,” she stated.

Both institutions expressed confidence that this strategic collaboration will help the Ghana Medical Trust Fund deliver sustainable, efficient, and equitable healthcare financing, ultimately improving service delivery and access to specialised medical care nationwide.
