German Delegation Meets GFZA Boss Dr. Mary Awusi to Explore Investment Prospects in Ghana

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Dr. Mary Awusi, has reiterated Ghana’s unwavering commitment to fostering trade and investment partnerships as she engaged a high-level German delegation during a Business Roundtable organized by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC). The meeting was held in Accra as part of the official State Visit of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, H.E. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, to Ghana.

The Business Roundtable served as a significant platform to strengthen Ghana-Germany economic relations and to explore new avenues for cooperation in sectors such as manufacturing, agribusiness, renewable energy, and industrial development. The German delegation, led by Dr. Thomas Steffen, held fruitful discussions with Ghanaian government representatives, industry leaders, and investment agencies on deepening bilateral trade and exploring sustainable business opportunities.

In her remarks, Dr. Mary Awusi commended the GIPC for hosting such a high-level engagement and expressed gratitude to the German delegation for showing keen interest in Ghana’s growing investment potential. She explained that the Ghana Free Zones Authority remains a strategic driver of Ghana’s industrialization and export-led growth agenda, providing a robust platform for both local and foreign investors to establish competitive businesses that contribute meaningfully to the country’s economic development.

Dr. Awusi underscored the GFZA’s commitment to facilitating strategic investments in manufacturing, agribusiness, and renewable energy to expand Ghana’s production capacity and create sustainable employment opportunities. She highlighted that Ghana’s Free Zones Programme offers attractive fiscal incentives, efficient regulatory processes, and access to regional and global markets, making it one of the most investor-friendly frameworks in sub-Saharan Africa.

According to Dr. Awusi, Ghana’s political stability, strong legal framework, and favourable business climate make it an ideal destination for investors seeking long-term partnerships in Africa. She emphasized that the Authority continues to champion initiatives that promote value addition, industrial diversification, and technology transfer to boost productivity and competitiveness.

The discussions during the meeting focused on potential areas of collaboration between Ghanaian and German businesses, particularly in renewable energy solutions, agro-processing, and light manufacturing. The two sides explored how Ghana’s Free Zones infrastructure could serve as a launchpad for German investors looking to establish a strong foothold in West Africa’s growing market.

Dr. Awusi reaffirmed the GFZA’s openness to collaboration with German companies, citing Germany’s global leadership in technological innovation and industrial efficiency as key assets that could support Ghana’s modernization agenda. She expressed optimism that partnerships forged through engagements such as the Business Roundtable would contribute significantly to Ghana’s economic transformation and the achievement of the government’s industrialization goals.

Members of the German delegation praised Ghana’s investment-friendly policies and the Free Zones model, describing it as an exemplary framework that encourages sustainable and export-driven growth. They expressed readiness to work closely with the Ghanaian government and private sector to identify and pursue mutually beneficial projects in priority industries.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment from both Ghanaian and German representatives to deepen bilateral cooperation, expand trade ties, and promote industrial partnerships built on innovation, sustainability, and shared prosperity. Dr. Mary Awusi’s participation in the engagement further underscored Ghana’s strong resolve to attract quality investments that drive inclusive growth and position the nation as a key business hub in Africa.
