The leadership of No Business as Usual Project (NBU) have extended their entrepreneurship training to students of Garden City University College in the Ashanti region.
Through a collaboration between authorities of the college and implementers of the European Union funded Project (NBU), the latter on the 15th February 2020 assembled close to over 400 students of the institution and offered them exposure to recent trends in the entrepreneurship ecosystem whiles challenging them to be critical thinkers and problem solvers.
Under an official event called “IGNITE 8.0”, partakers covering students and aspiring entrepreneurs exchanged innovative ideas, established networks and possible partnerships towards igniting their entrepreneurship drive.
It was held on the campus of the University under the theme; “IGNITING YOUR ENTREPRENEURSHIP DRIVE” and assisted in empowering participants on how to take advantage of their research work and turn them into viable businesses.
It aided attendants to explore the various funding options for Businesses start-ups and again empowered them on how to take advantage of their research work and turn them into viable business.
At the event, a platform was created to discuss various business ideas that students can explore on the campus citing as an example the success of Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates.
Briefing the press, Training Coordinator for NBU Shaibu Fuseini expressed worry over how Ghana’s educational approach on entrepreneurship is so much theoretically focused.
Per the state of affairs, the system he indicated doesn’t offer students much exposure to the practical aspect and that nothing seems to be changing.
NBU he confidently disclosed is determined to challenge the status-quo by providing platforms that will offer youth much practical knowledge so that they will be able to think outside the box and think critically. “Through this, they will be able to make life better for themselves through entrepreneurship”, he topped up.
Adding his voice, Head of Marketing and Entrepreneurship Department for Garden City University College Mr. Isaac Tweneboah Kodua advised institutions and other hubs to go into entrepreneurship education by helping people to understand the rudiments of running a successful and a sustainable business otherwise many people who lack the know-how will rush into business and fail. “Ghana as a nation needs more successful business men and women”, he indicated.
Speakers for the event were; Mr. Isaac Tweneboah Kodua (GCUC), Shaibu Fuseini: Co-Founder, AgricConnect, Ms. Gifty Afi Cudjoe: Advisor, Employment Promotion.
They respectively spoke on business ideation, funding opportunities and the recent trends in the entrepreneurship ecosystem.
