Founder of Molex Foundation Africa, Dr. Patrick Essien, Honoured by NUGS for Transformative Youth Mentorship
Dr. Patrick Essien, Founder and President of Molex Foundation Africa, has been honoured by the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) for his transformative role in youth mentorship, leadership development, and the promotion of inclusive education across Ghana.
The recognition was conferred during the 58th NUGS Handing-Over, Swearing-In, and Education Award Ceremony, a prestigious national event that brings together student leaders, policymakers, education stakeholders, and development partners to celebrate excellence and service within Ghana’s student movement.

The honour reflects Dr. Essien’s longstanding commitment to nurturing disciplined, ethical, and purpose-driven young leaders. Over the years, he has emerged as a leading voice in youth empowerment, gender inclusion, and skills-based education, combining advocacy with practical interventions that create lasting impact.
A Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) expert, environmental scientist, and public servant, Dr. Essien has consistently championed initiatives that equip young people with relevant skills for national development. Through Molex Foundation Africa, he has implemented programmes aimed at expanding access to education, mentorship, and leadership training, particularly for underserved youth.
One of the Foundation’s flagship initiatives, SHEROES in STEM, has gained national recognition for addressing gender disparities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education. The programme has inspired and empowered hundreds of young girls by building their confidence, providing access to STEM education and practical skills, and connecting them with experienced mentors in academia and industry.
Beyond empowering individuals, these interventions have contributed significantly to Ghana’s human capital development and long-term sustainable growth. Beneficiaries of the programme continue to excel in their academic and professional pursuits, serving as role models within their communities.
At the ceremony, NUGS presented Dr. Essien with a Youth Leadership Recognition (Citation), commending his sacrifice, dedication, and unwavering mentorship of young people in leadership and governance. The citation praised his consistent support for youth-focused initiatives and his strong belief in equipping future leaders with ethical values, discipline, and professionalism.
Dr. Essien currently serves as Deputy Director for Mining at the Environmental Protection Authority, where he continues to demonstrate ethical leadership and technical expertise in the regulation of Ghana’s mining sector while advocating for environmental sustainability and youth inclusion.
The NUGS honour adds to a growing list of national recognitions received by Dr. Essien for his contributions to youth empowerment and STEM education. He was recently awarded an Honorary Recognition for STEM and Innovation at the Ghana Tech Awards in acknowledgment of his outstanding impact on innovation-driven and inclusive education.

The recognition by NUGS is a testament to Dr. Patrick Essien’s enduring mission to raise a generation of innovative, disciplined, and socially responsible leaders. His work continues to inspire students, educators, policymakers, and development partners across Ghana.
As the nation looks towards a future anchored on innovation, technology, and inclusive leadership, Dr. Essien’s example stands as powerful evidence that visionary leadership rooted in mentorship and service can truly transform lives and shape national progress.
