First of Its Kind: Hon. Boachie De-Graft Commissions Nana Antwi Bosiako I Sports Complex in Bosome Freho

In a historic milestone for community development in the Bosome Freho District of the Ashanti Region, Hon. Boachie De-Graft Maxwell—Presiding Member of the Bosome Freho District Assembly and Assembly Member for the December Dunkura Electoral Area—has officially commissioned the Nana Antwi Bosiako I Sports Complex, the first-ever multi-purpose sports facility in the district.
The commissioning event, held in Dunkura, marked a major breakthrough in efforts to provide modern recreational infrastructure for youth and sports development. The newly inaugurated complex, named in honour of Hon. Boachie’s chief linguist, Nana Antwi Bosiako I, boasts two well-laid courts adaptable for volleyball, tennis, netball, basketball, and handball.
“This project represents the beginning of a new era for Dunkura and Bosome Freho,” Hon. Boachie stated. “It is the first phase of a larger plan to invest in youth development, promote physical fitness, and unearth sporting talent across the district.”
Constructed at a cost of GH¢53,000, the sports complex was made possible through collaborative efforts among local leadership, development partners, and community members. Hon. Boachie called on the youth and residents of Dunkura to protect and maintain the facility, emphasizing its significance as a legacy project for future generations.
In a further demonstration of commitment to development, Hon. Boachie also commissioned a six-seater biodigester toilet facility for the Dunkura R/C Primary School. Donated in memory of the late Obaapanin Catherine A. Boatemaa by her family, the facility is expected to greatly enhance sanitation and hygiene conditions for both pupils and staff.
The day’s activities also included a presentation of sewing machines and hair dryers to selected women in the community as part of a women’s empowerment initiative. The donation aims to support beneficiaries in starting or expanding their small-scale businesses and creating sustainable livelihoods.
In a boost to environmental sanitation, Mr. Godfred Acheampong, Project Director of the Rotary Club of Obuasi, donated 50 waste bins to support the Assembly Member’s community-wide cleanliness campaign. The bins will be strategically placed across Dunkura to promote environmental health and proper waste management.
The well-attended event drew participation from traditional authorities, educators, students, and community members. Distinguished guests included Nana Okogyeasuo Dabo Ababio II, Odikro of Dabokrom, and Okyeame Antwi Bosiako, Chief Linguist to Nana Boagyaa Chief Nana Appiagyei Danka. Both leaders commended Hon. Boachie for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to community progress.
“We are proud of what we’re witnessing today,” said Nana Appiagyei Danka. “This is the kind of leadership our communities need—action-driven, people-centered, and transformational.”
With the successful rollout of these projects, Hon. Boachie De-Graft Maxwell continues to raise the bar for grassroots governance, proving that where there is dedication and unity, sustainable development is not a dream but a reality.
