A devastating fire has engulfed properties worth millions of cedis in Suame, causing significant damage to a storey building and its contents. The incident occurred at approximately 9:00 a.m. today, sending residents and onlookers into panic.

Eyewitnesses told Sompa News that the fire originated from a self-contained storey building. They revealed that the outbreak reportedly stemmed from an electrical fault at the building’s meter, which rapidly escalated into a fierce inferno.

In an effort to contain the blaze before the arrival of the Ghana National Fire Service, residents improvised by mixing washing powder with water to suppress the flames. “By God’s grace, we were able to bring the fire’s strength down before the Fire Service personnel arrived,” one eyewitness recounted. They also confirmed that a distress call had been placed to the Fire Service office immediately after the outbreak.

The tenant of the affected building, Kadre Adamu, also provided an account of the incident during an interview with journalist Bawah Baidoo, describing the suddenness of the fire and the challenges faced in preventing further destruction.

Fortunately, no casualties have been reported, though the financial loss is substantial, with several properties and valuable items destroyed. Authorities have begun assessing the extent of the damage and are urging residents to exercise caution with electrical installations to prevent such incidents in the future.

The Ghana National Fire Service responded promptly to the scene, ensuring that the fire was fully extinguished and preventing its spread to neighboring structures.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by electrical faults and the importance of fire safety awareness in residential and commercial areas.
