Fintech Excellence: MobileMoney LTD CEO Shaibu Haruna Clinches Top Award

In a momentous recognition of visionary leadership in Ghana’s digital finance space, the Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney LTD, Mr. Shaibu Haruna, has been named CEO of the Year – Fintech at the 4th Ghana CEO Vision and Awards, held at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra.
The award, organised by Globe Productions Ltd, honours trailblazing chief executives who have demonstrated measurable impact and innovation within their respective sectors. Mr. Haruna’s win highlights his instrumental role in transforming the fintech landscape in Ghana and advancing financial inclusion through technology.

Since his appointment in 2022 as CEO of MobileMoney LTD, a subsidiary of Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana), Shaibu Haruna has led the company with distinction—introducing innovative digital financial solutions, expanding access to mobile financial services, and reinforcing the company’s leadership as the country’s leading digital finance provider.
“This recognition is a testament to the incredible work of the MobileMoney LTD team and the entire MTN Ghana family,” Mr. Haruna said during his acceptance speech. “We remain committed to delivering cutting-edge digital financial solutions that empower individuals, businesses, and communities across Ghana and beyond.”

He dedicated the award to MoMo customers and stakeholder groups who have consistently used and supported the platform. Their loyalty, he stressed, has played a critical role in deepening financial inclusion and driving Ghana’s transition toward a cash-lite economy.
Mr. Haruna is a highly accomplished business executive with over 25 years of experience in various industries across Africa and the Middle East. His professional background includes expertise in Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), Automotive, Financial Services, E-Commerce, and Telecommunications.
For the past 18 years, he has specialized in telecom and digital services, playing key leadership roles in Ghana, Uganda, South Africa, and Saudi Arabia. One of his standout achievements includes leading the design and implementation of MTN Ghana’s high-performance distribution model—an initiative so successful it was adopted across several MTN Group markets.
Under his leadership, MobileMoney LTD has continued its mission, launched in 2009, to enhance financial accessibility and empower Ghanaians through secure, convenient, and innovative mobile money services. The platform has become a major driver of economic opportunity, serving millions of users, especially in rural and underserved communities.

Mr. Haruna’s strategic direction has not only increased the reliability and efficiency of mobile transactions in Ghana but has also reinforced the company’s commitment to delivering customer-centric solutions in an ever-evolving digital economy.
The 4th Ghana CEO Vision and Awards attracted a cross-section of the country’s most influential business leaders, policymakers, and innovators. The event serves as a prestigious platform for celebrating exceptional leadership and fostering a spirit of innovation and excellence in Ghana’s corporate and public sectors.
