The fight against Galamsey Bibiani Forest District has declared war against illegal mining popular know as Galamsey.
Forestry Commission Strikes at Galamsey Site at Anhwiaso East Forest Reserve in the Bibiani Forest One District-one Chinese National Arrested.
A team of Forestry personnel, organised from various sections of the Region within the Forestry Commission on Friday dawn about 12:30am, moved to a Galamsey site within the Anwianso East Forest and arrested one Chinese National and immobilised two excavators machines.Other suspects numbering about Twenty (20) managed to escape arrest. It would be recalled that there was a recent outcry about illegal miners evading the manse community portion of the Anwianso Forest Reserve, compartment 83 for the illegal mining activities, and were heavily protected by military officers. It is based on this among several reports on the illegal mining activities from the Bibiani Forest District that this operation was carried out.
At the time of the operation, three machines were at site, but they managed to immobilised two of the machines where as the third one was at a site that was inaccessible due to the nature of pits that were dugged within the site. All effort is being made to flash out the pepertrators.
We will appeal to the military top hierarchy to investigate the purported Military officers guiding this particular galamsey site and the officers brought to book. It would also be recalled that same Military officers, after a similar operation, went to the Bibiani District office to verbally attack the staff last month.
Furthermore, the Manse Chief, including eight(8) galamsey operators, were arrested at the same site somewhere, November 2023, and since then, nothing has been heard about that case. We are appealing to the Police Commander in the Western North Region to expedite action on the prosecution of the arrested suspects to serve as a deterrent to others.
The Chinese suspect arrested has been handed over to the Bibiani police command for further investigation and prosecution.
