Fidelity Bank Ghana has reinforced its commitment to media development and responsible financial reporting by donating GH¢50,000 to the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to support the construction of a press centre for journalists in the Ashanti Region.
The cheque was presented on Thursday, February 5, 2026, during a one-day financial sector training programme organised by the bank for journalists at the Lancaster Kumasi Hotel. The training formed part of Fidelity Bank’s broader strategy to enhance financial literacy among media practitioners and deepen their understanding of the banking industry.

Presenting the cheque, the Managing Director of Fidelity bank , Mr. Julian Opuni, said the donation followed a formal request from the GJA and was in line with the bank’s pledge to support initiatives that strengthen the work of journalists across the country. He noted that the media plays a critical role in shaping public understanding of financial issues and promoting transparency within the banking sector.
“We received a request from the Ghana Journalists Association, and as a bank that values strong partnerships with the media, we are donating GH¢50,000 to support the Ashanti Regional Press Centre project,” Mr. Opuni stated. “Journalists remain key stakeholders in national development, and supporting projects that enhance their capacity and working environment is important to us.”
He added that Fidelity Bank would continue to invest in programmes that promote accurate, ethical, and responsible financial reporting, while fostering constructive engagement between the banking industry and the media.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the association, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the GJA, Mr. Kofi Adu Domfe, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Fidelity Bank for the timely intervention. He described the donation as a significant boost to the press centre project, which has been challenged mainly by limited financial resources.

“We have been working diligently towards the establishment of a permanent press centre for journalists in the Ashanti Region, but financing has been a major hurdle,” Mr. Domfe said. “This donation has come at an ideal time, and we are extremely grateful to Fidelity Bank for responding positively to our appeal.”
Mr. Domfe assured that the funds would be used judiciously to advance the project and called on other corporate institutions, development partners, and stakeholders to support the initiative to ensure its successful completion.

The Ashanti Regional Press Centre, when completed, is expected to serve as a professional hub for journalists, providing office space, training facilities, and a platform for media engagement, collaboration, and capacity building in the region.
