Family accuses Suntreso hospital nurses of negligence in daughter’s death during childbirth, demands justice and investigation:

A grieving mother is publicly accusing nurses at the Suntreso Government Hospital in Kumasi North of negligence that she claims led to the death of her 38-year-old daughter during childbirth. Madam Francisca Gyamfi is calling on the Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Minta Akando, the Ashanti Regional Health Directorate, and the hospital’s director to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of her daughter, Juliana Ayima.

Madam Gyamfi alleges that delays in performing a Cesarean section (CS) contributed to her daughter’s death. According to Madam Gyamfi, her daughter, a mother of three, had been regularly attending antenatal care at the Suntreso Government Hospital in preparation for her fourth child. After exceeding her due date, Juliana reported to the hospital, where nurses determined her condition was unstable and advised her to stay.

Madam Gyamfi claims that although nurses initially indicated that a CS was necessary to save Juliana’s life, they instead opted to administer medication to induce labor. She alleges that the nurses administered the same medication three times, and during this process, Juliana was in significant pain and distress.

“While I was monitoring my daughter’s delivery, I later entered the room and saw her shouting, calling for help, and saying, ‘Mama, Mama, because of the three times of medicines the nurses gave me, I cannot control myself, and I must be operated on for a CS, but the nurses have refused to save my life,'” Madam Gyamfi recounted. “Immediately she said so, she lost her life in my presence”. She soberly reflected.

Madam Gyamfi contends that the nurses failed to provide adequate care and is appealing to the government and the health ministry to intervene. She is particularly calling on Hon. Kwabena Minta Akandor to launch a thorough investigation into the events leading up to her daughter’s death.
