Excavator Operator Narrowly Escape Death At Quarry Site [Video]

A young man narrowly escaped death when a huge rock crushed down on the excavator he was operating.

The incident happened at the K. K. Quarry in Mowire, Kodie on the offinso highway. The operator was running the machine like every other day when suddenly a huge boulder came loose from up high tumbling down towards the excavator.

His coworkers shouted to alert him and he quickly jumped out of the driver’s seat with only seconds to spare. The rock was so big it crushed and buried the front of the excavator deep into the ground. The excavator engine was completely mangled beyond repair.

From the video, other workers are heard saying one of their colleagues named Seidu had drawn attention to the said boulder and how it could be dangerous to workers. It appears management of the Quarry was yet to do anything about it before the accident happened.

The operator was visibly shaking after the near-death experience and could only be grateful to be alive.

One of the Chinese bosses of the place who was at the scene assessed the damage and directed the workers to try and siphon out the diesel from the trapped excavator. The unenthused Ghanaian workers responded with unprintable words.

The workers went on to complain about how they do all the work but get little pay. “If he had died, that would have been a st*pid death” – one of the workers is heard saying in the video.

From the video, only one worker was seen to be wearing a safety helmet. As to why the other workers were not wearing any safety gear could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report. Did they simply choose not to wear them or is it that they have not been provided enough safety gear to reach everyone? That may be determined later.

The workers proceeded to discuss if it would be possible for any machine to lift the boulder to salvage what is left of the damaged excavator.
