Eugene Amo-Asamoah Bags Prestigious Youth in Environment Award at Millennium Excellence Awards

In a grand ceremony held at the Manhyia Palace, Eugene Amo-Asamoah, Business Development Manager of the Kumasi Compost and Recycling Plant (KCARP), was presented with the Youth in Environment Award, one of the top honors at the 2025 Millennium Excellence Awards.

The awards, organized by the Millennium Excellence Foundation, are renowned for celebrating individuals whose contributions have significantly impacted their fields and communities. This year’s edition was held under the distinguished patronage of His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene and Life Patron of the Foundation.

Eugene’s recognition is a testament to his trailblazing work in environmental sustainability, waste management, and climate advocacy. His leadership at KCARP, Africa’s largest compost and recycling facility, has helped transform Ghana’s waste sector by introducing innovative and sustainable waste recycling models that promote environmental protection while creating economic opportunities.

Through his leadership, Eugene has overseen the rollout of community-centered waste management projects in multiple regions, empowering households and institutions to adopt cleaner, more sustainable practices. His work has been instrumental in shaping institutional waste management policies, offering technical guidance to both governmental and private bodies, and promoting eco-conscious development across the country.

Receiving the award, Eugene expressed deep appreciation to the organizers and all those who have supported his journey. “I am very humbled and honoured to receive the Highest Honour Award in the Youth in Environment category,” he said. “My heartfelt thanks go to HRM Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the Millennium Excellence Executive Board for this incredible recognition.”

He also paid tribute to Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group, for his mentorship, as well as his colleagues, team members, and family. “I owe this achievement to the collective efforts of my team, mentors, and family—especially my wife and children—for their unwavering support. This award is not the end but a motivation to continue the work we’ve started.”

Eugene used the platform to advocate for greater public involvement in environmental preservation. “We all have a responsibility to protect our environment. I invite everyone—young and old—to join hands in creating a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future for Ghana and beyond.”

The Millennium Excellence Foundation hailed Eugene’s contributions as pivotal in the fight against environmental degradation and climate change, describing him as a rising star in the sustainability movement.

The event attracted notable dignitaries from traditional leadership, government, civil society, and the private sector, all gathered to honour excellence, innovation, and service. Eugene’s award stands as a beacon for youth engagement in environmental leadership and national development.
