Empowering the Next Generation: Molex Foundation President Advocates STEM, IT, and TVET Education
Dr. Patrick Essien (PhD), President of Molex Foundation Africa, has urged first-year tertiary students, as well as pre-tertiary and secondary school learners, to deliberately pursue studies in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Information Technology (IT), and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as essential tools for personal empowerment and national development.

Dr. Essien, an Environmental and Space Scientist, Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, former African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) Canada Postdoctoral Research Fellow, entrepreneur, and founder of Molex Foundation Africa, made the call during an interactive engagement with freshers in Cape Coast earlier today.

Speaking to the students, he emphasized that in today’s era of technological advancement, industrialisation, and innovation, STEM, IT, and TVET disciplines form the foundation of modern economies. He highlighted that these fields equip young people with practical skills, foster global relevance, and create sustainable career opportunities.
“Ghana’s progress and competitiveness depend heavily on the ability of our youth to acquire technical, digital, and problem-solving skills that can drive innovation, generate employment, and solve real-world challenges,” Dr. Essien said. He urged students to view STEM, IT, and TVET not merely as academic subjects, but as strategic instruments for nation-building, economic growth, and self-reliance.
Dr. Essien also reaffirmed Molex Foundation Africa’s commitment to nurturing young talent through mentorship, capacity-building initiatives, and educational programs aimed at developing the next generation of African scientists, technologists, and innovators.

He concluded by encouraging students to take full advantage of learning opportunities, embrace practical skills, and actively contribute to the creation of a prosperous and self-reliant Ghana.
