Supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Offinso South Constituency are calling on Ghanaians to cast their votes for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate, in the upcoming 2024 general elections. The supporters emphasize that Dr. Bawumia’s leadership is crucial to sustaining the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, a transformative initiative introduced in 2017, which has significantly impacted Ghana’s educational landscape.
The appeal was made during a lively float organized to launch a youth football championship in the constituency, spearheaded by Mr. Richard Agyare and his wife, Madam Mercy Dombo. Both natives of Offinso Agyeimpra now residing in the United Kingdom, the couple expressed their commitment to promoting youth development in Offinso. The event brought together enthusiastic NPP supporters who took the opportunity to highlight the Free SHS program’s benefits and encourage the constituency to support Dr. Bawumia.
Many NPP supporters spoke passionately about the positive impact of the Free SHS policy, describing it as a game-changer that has alleviated the financial strain on many families, enabling underprivileged children to pursue secondary education. “The Free SHS policy has made it possible for many children who might otherwise have dropped out to continue their studies,” one supporter remarked. “Voting for Dr. Bawumia is essential to ensure the continuation and expansion of this initiative, which has already transformed countless lives.”
Supporters underscored Dr. Bawumia’s dedication to education, digital transformation, and infrastructure, describing him as a visionary leader committed to the welfare of Ghanaians. His focus on empowering the youth through education was a key talking point, with many expressing confidence in his ability to lead the country into a prosperous future. “Dr. Bawumia is committed to youth progress, placing education at the heart of his agenda,” said one NPP member. “We need a leader who understands the power of education in lifting families out of poverty.”
The supporters further highlighted the policy’s impact on Offinso and other communities, where increased school enrollment has helped to curb youth idleness and promote social stability. According to the supporters, the Free SHS program has given young people in Offinso a renewed focus on academics and career preparation, generating a positive ripple effect throughout families and communities.
Hon. Boakye Ansah David, Assembly Member for the Offinso Agyeimpra Electoral Area, also spoke at the event, using the opportunity to outline the activities for the Youth Football Championship. Scheduled to run from Friday, November 1 to Sunday, November 3, 2024, the championship is expected to engage young people across the constituency in healthy competition, fostering teamwork and discipline. Hon. Boakye Ansah urged all NPP members in the constituency to turn out in support of Dr. Bawumia and the party’s parliamentary candidates in the December 7 general elections.
The NPP supporters reiterated that a vote for Dr. Bawumia would not only secure the future of free education but also enhance policies aimed at strengthening Ghana’s education sector, creating jobs, and improving quality of life. They made a special appeal to parents and young people, urging them to consider the positive changes brought about by the Free SHS program as they head to the polls.
In their concluding message, the supporters called on the people of Offinso to mobilize friends and family to vote for the NPP, emphasizing the importance of continuity in governance to achieve the party’s long-term educational and social goals. “Let us stand together for a brighter future. Let us vote for Dr. Bawumia to protect our children’s right to education and to ensure Ghana’s continued progress,” they urged.
