ECG Resolves Ridge BSP Cable Fault, Assures Residents in Kumasi of Stable Power Supply

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has successfully resolved the technical fault that caused a widespread power outage in Kumasi and has assured residents of stable and reliable electricity supply across the metropolis.
The disruption occurred on Saturday night following a 33kV cable blast at the Ridge Bulk Supply Point (BSP). According to ECG officials, the incident resulted from a high-voltage cable termination failure, which affected electricity supply to the Adoato, Agogo, Afari, and Edwenasi primary substations. The fault plunged large sections of Greater Kumasi into temporary darkness, impacting residential, commercial, and institutional activities.

Speaking to journalists at the ECG Boadi Office, the Acting General Manager for Ashanti Sub-Transmission, Ing. James Mensah Yevunya, explained that the cable failure significantly affected key substations that distribute power within the Kumasi metropolis. He noted that immediately after the fault was detected, the Ashanti Sub-Transmission Cable Team mobilized to the site to initiate emergency restoration works.

Ing. Yevunya stated that the technical team began operations at approximately 1:00 a.m., working tirelessly throughout the night to transfer the affected cables from the compromised panel to an alternative panel. The swift and coordinated intervention enabled engineers to safely restore power supply to the affected communities by the following day.

He commended the engineers and technical staff for their dedication, expertise, and professionalism, emphasizing that their prompt response minimized the duration of the outage and reduced inconvenience to customers.
Ing. Yevunya further assured residents that the system has since been stabilized and is operating under normal conditions. He reaffirmed ECG’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure, improving maintenance practices, and enhancing rapid response systems to ensure improved power stability across Greater Kumasi.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer for Ashanti Sub-Transmission, Mr. Collins Manu, reiterated the company’s dedication to delivering reliable and customer-focused services. He acknowledged that while certain technical faults are unpredictable, ECG remains committed to maintaining timely and transparent communication with customers regarding both emergency outages and planned maintenance works.

ECG expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and thanked residents for their patience and cooperation during the restoration process. The company reaffirmed its resolve to guarantee dependable electricity supply and continuous service improvement throughout Kumasi and its surrounding communities.
