The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has explained that the recent power outage experienced in parts of the Ashanti Region was caused by upstream technical challenges, while highlighting ongoing investments aimed at strengthening power infrastructure and improving electricity reliability nationwide.

According to ECG, the system disturbance did not originate from its immediate distribution network but was linked to upstream technical issues, which temporarily affected power supply to several communities. The company said it swiftly engaged relevant stakeholders within the power sector to ensure the prompt restoration of electricity.

Speaking during an off-studio radio interview on Akoma 87.9 FM in Kumasi, the Head of Public Relations for ECG Ashanti Sub-Transmission, Mr. Collins Manu, expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to customers and reaffirmed ECG’s commitment to dependable power delivery.

“The outage in Ashanti was due to upstream technical challenges, and ECG liaised with stakeholders to ensure swift restoration of power. We sincerely regret the inconvenience and appreciate our customers’ patience,” Mr. Manu stated.

He further noted that ECG continues to make significant investments in critical power infrastructure as part of efforts to enhance network stability and meet the country’s growing energy demand. These investments span Bulk Supply Points, high-voltage transmission lines, primary substations, power transformers, distribution transformers, low-voltage networks and customer metering systems.

“Our commitment is simple: to provide safe, reliable and quality electricity to support national development and meet the growing energy needs of the country,” Mr. Manu said, adding that this commitment remains a key priority under the leadership of ECG’s Managing Director, Ing. Kwame Kpekpena.

Mr. Manu explained that in addition to infrastructure expansion, ECG prioritises routine maintenance and system upgrades to strengthen the distribution network and reduce the frequency and impact of power interruptions.

He assured customers that ECG will continue to work closely with stakeholders across the power sector to improve response time to faults and enhance overall service delivery.

According to him, sustained investment in infrastructure remains central to ensuring reliable electricity supply, supporting economic activities and improving customer experience across the Ashanti Region and the country at large.
