ECG embarks on major defect Correction exercise to boost power reliability in Ashanti region

In a strategic effort to enhance power reliability across the Ashanti Region, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), through its Ashanti Sub-Transmission team, has launched a comprehensive defect correction exercise on key transmission lines.
The initiative aims to strengthen the integrity of the region’s power network and reduce unplanned outages.
The exercise, which follows a directive from ECG’s Managing Director, Ing. Kwame Kpekpena, focuses on restoring the power system to its original performance standards.
During a recent working visit to the region, Ing. Kpekpena urged the team to intensify maintenance interventions to ensure quality and uninterrupted electricity supply for households, industries, and businesses.
As part of the exercise, the maintenance team carried out critical activities such as tightening loose fittings, replacing broken insulators, clearing vegetation along the transmission corridors, and correcting conductor sags.
These measures are expected to improve the mechanical resilience of the network and prevent potential system failures, including flashovers and line tripping.
Ing. James Mensah Yevunya, Network Maintenance Manager for Ashanti Sub-Transmission, explained that the exercise is part of a broader plan to ensure network reliability.
“Our goal is to ensure that the transmission system operates safely and efficiently. By correcting these defects, we are restoring the integrity of our lines and securing the power backbone that feeds the region,” he noted.
Beyond its technical benefits, the initiative reflects ECG’s proactive approach to preventive maintenance and commitment to supporting Ashanti’s growing economic and industrial development.
“The company reaffirmed its readiness to protect power assets, minimize outages, and deliver dependable electricity to power progress in the region,” Ing. James Mensah Yevunya emphasized.
