ECG Ashanti Sub-Transmission Empowers UENR Engineering Students with Hands-On Industrial Training

In a bold display of corporate social responsibility and commitment to academic-industry collaboration, the Ashanti Sub-Transmission unit of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has provided an invaluable hands-on industrial training experience to engineering students from the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in Sunyani.
The educational exercise, which took place on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, forms part of ECG’s broader agenda to contribute to national development through capacity building and technical knowledge transfer. The program, spearheaded by the Ashanti Sub-Transmission team, was carefully designed to bridge the gap between theoretical learning in the classroom and practical application in the field.
The visiting students were welcomed with a comprehensive orientation session that introduced them to the structure, operations, and significance of Ghana’s sub-transmission electricity network. The highlight of the visit was a guided tour of two major installations — the Anwomaso Bulk Supply Point (BSP) and the Airport Main Station ‘C’ — where students witnessed firsthand the technical intricacies involved in maintaining and operating critical power infrastructure.
The exposure offered students a rare opportunity to engage with experienced professionals and gain real-world insights into the dynamics of electricity distribution, grid stability, safety protocols, and operational challenges. Throughout the session, ECG engineers shared practical knowledge, explained engineering concepts in context, and answered questions, offering a mentoring experience that many students described as “transformative.”
One visibly excited student shared his thoughts: “It’s not every day that students walk through operational substations and interact with professionals who keep the grid stable. We’re truly grateful. The experience has deepened our appreciation of Ghana’s power systems and the people who make it work.”
For ECG’s Ashanti Sub-Transmission team, this initiative is more than just a one-time engagement — it is a deliberate investment in Ghana’s human capital development and a reflection of their corporate ethos: “Service beyond reliability.”
A lead engineer at ECG emphasized, “At ECG, we believe that knowledge shared is power amplified. We’re not just keeping the lights on — we’re lighting the path for the next generation of engineers.”
The visit marks another milestone in ECG’s ongoing efforts to foster strong linkages between academia and industry, ensuring that the future workforce is well-equipped to meet the demands of Ghana’s growing energy sector.
With this inspiring gesture, ECG once again cements its position not just as a utility provider, but as a development partner committed to empowering young minds and building a resilient, knowledge-driven Ghana.
