Dunkwahene Appeals to President and Roads Minister to Prioritise Deplorable Dunkwa Road Network

The Paramount Chief of the Dunkwa Traditional Area, Okoforubour Obeng Nuako III, has passionately appealed to the President of the Republic and the Minister for Roads and Highways to give urgent attention to the poor road infrastructure within the Dunkwa enclave, describing roads as vital to the socio-economic development of the area and the country at large.

The revered traditional leader made the appeal during the celebration of the Akwasidae festival last Sunday, an occasion that brought together community members, traditional leaders, and key stakeholders. According to the Dunkwahene, roads play an essential role in facilitating livelihoods, trade, and security in Dunkwa and its surrounding communities, and therefore must not be overlooked in national planning and development efforts.

Okoforubour Obeng Nuako III expressed grave concern about the current state of the Dunkwa-Obuasi road, which he recalled was refurbished years ago after his intervention to the previous government. However, he sadly noted that the road has once again deteriorated, making transportation extremely difficult and putting road users at risk.

“The roads in the Dunkwa enclave, such as the Twifo Pramso–Cape Coast, Dunkwa–Ayanfuri, Dunkwa–Assin Fosu, and Dunkwa–Kyekyewere roads, are all in a deplorable state,” the Dunkwahene stated. He emphasized that the worsening condition of these roads not only affects economic activities like agriculture and commerce but also threatens public safety.

Nana Nuako lamented that the poor state of the roads provides opportunities for armed robbers and other criminal elements to terrorize residents, thereby undermining peace and security within the enclave and beyond. He warned that if urgent steps are not taken, the consequences could impact the broader national security landscape.

Touching on past political promises, the chief recalled that the then-presidential candidate, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, pledged to continue the construction of the Twifo Pramso–Cape Coast stretch, which was halted. Nana Nuako used the occasion to appeal to the former President to fulfill that promise now that he is seeking another term in office, stressing that the Denkyira communities still hold him to his word.

In a related development, the newly appointed Dunkwa Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent David Ashong, paid a courtesy call on the Dunkwahene to formally introduce himself and express his readiness to serve the people of Dunkwa and its surrounding areas.

Okoforubour Obeng Nuako III warmly welcomed the new police commander and pledged his full support and collaboration to help enhance peace and security in the area. He urged residents and stakeholders to support the efforts of the police in maintaining law and order for the progress of the community.

The occasion underscored the urgent need for development-oriented leadership and strategic investment in critical infrastructure such as roads, which remain a lifeline for communities like Dunkwa and the Denkyira Traditional Area.
