Duase M/A Basic School Receives ICT Support from 1997 Alumni Year Group

The Duase M/A Basic School in the Ashanti Region has received a significant boost to its Information and Communication Technology (ICT) education following a donation of two desktop computers and GHS1,000 from the school’s 1997 Alumni Year Group. The presentation was made during the school’s Homecoming Ceremony held on the school compound on Thursday, November 27, 2025.

The donation was met with profound appreciation from teachers, pupils, and community members who witnessed the event. According to the alumni, the gesture forms part of their long-term commitment to supporting their alma mater and improving ICT literacy among pupils at the basic school level.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Mr. Gabriel Opoku Afriyie highlighted the importance of equipping young learners with the necessary technological skills to thrive in an increasingly digital world. He explained that the two computers, together with the cash support, would contribute to strengthening the school’s ICT laboratory, enhancing practical lessons, and ensuring that pupils gain hands-on experience in computer studies.

“Technology is shaping every sector of society, and we believe pupils of Duase M/A Basic School deserve a fair opportunity to learn, explore, and build digital skills that will prepare them for the future. This donation is our way of giving back and supporting the next generation,” he stated.

The headteacher, Mrs. Dorcas Owusu Aborah, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the 1997 Year Group for what she described as a timely and transformative intervention. She noted that the computers would significantly improve the delivery of ICT lessons, while the GHS1,000 would support equipment maintenance, utility expenses, and the purchase of additional learning materials to enhance the Computer Knowledge Programme.

“This support will greatly improve ICT education in the school and increase pupils’ interest in computer studies. We are grateful to the 1997 Year Group for remembering the school and investing in the future of our children,” she said.

Some pupils who spoke during the ceremony expressed their excitement about having more computers available for practical lessons. They noted that the donation would help them better understand ICT concepts and build confidence in using digital tools.

The 1997 Alumni Year Group reaffirmed their readiness to undertake more development projects in partnership with the school, encouraging other past students to join efforts to raise the standard of education in the Duase community.

The donation marks a commendable step toward promoting digital literacy and creating a more conducive and resource-rich learning environment for present and future learners of Duase M/A Basic School.
