Drobonso Chief Appeals to Government Over Poor Roads in Sekyere Afram Plains

The Chief of Drobonso, Nana Dwamena Dankwah Dwubisaw, has appealed to the Government of Ghana to urgently address the poor state of road infrastructure in the Sekyere Afram Plains District of the Ashanti Region, describing the situation as a major setback to development and the well-being of residents.

According to the traditional ruler, deplorable road conditions remain the most pressing challenge confronting the district, with over 60 communities cut off from reliable transportation networks. He noted that the only tarred road linking Kumawu to Drobonso is grossly inadequate to serve the growing population and economic activities of the area, leaving many residents to endure hardship, especially during the rainy season.

Nana Dwamena Dankwah Dwubisaw made the appeal during the Miss Drobonso Beauty Pageant 2025, an event that brought together traditional authorities, residents, and stakeholders from the district. He used the occasion to draw national attention to the infrastructural neglect of the Sekyere Afram Plains, calling on government to prioritise the tarring of key roads, particularly the Drobonso–Jeduako road, to improve access, enhance trade, and boost socio-economic development.

The chief explained that the poor nature of the roads continues to affect the transportation of farm produce to major markets, increases the cost of doing business, and discourages investment in the area. He stressed that improved road networks would not only open up the district but also significantly improve access to healthcare, education, and other essential social services.

Beyond road infrastructure, Nana Dwamena Dankwah Dwubisaw also appealed for the completion of the dormitory facility at the Drobonso Community Day Senior High School. He said the absence of adequate boarding facilities continues to limit access to secondary education for many students, particularly those from distant communities who struggle with daily commuting.

He further called on government to consider establishing a Nursing and Midwifery Training School in the district to strengthen healthcare delivery and create educational opportunities for the youth. According to him, such an institution would help address the shortage of health professionals in the area while contributing to local development.

The chief urged authorities to respond swiftly to the needs of the district, emphasising that equitable development across the country requires deliberate attention to rural and underserved communities such as the Sekyere Afram Plains.
