Driving Digital Transformation: MTN Ghana Dominates 2025 Project Management Excellence Awards

MTN Ghana has once again demonstrated its commitment to digital transformation and operational excellence by winning four prestigious awards at the 2025 Project Management Excellence Awards (PMEA), including the highly coveted Project Management Office (PMO) of the Year. The event, hosted by the Project Management Institute (PMI) Ghana Chapter, took place at the Aqua Safari Resort in Ada, following the conclusion of the 2025 National Project Management Conference (NPMC).
The PMEA, Ghana’s leading platform for recognizing outstanding project delivery and management, celebrated individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to project execution, innovation, and development. MTN Ghana emerged as the biggest winner of the night, reaffirming its dominance in digital innovation and strategic project leadership.
MTN Ghana bagged the following four awards:
- PMO of the Year – MTN Ghana Project Management Office
- Telecom Company Project of the Year – NextGen MoMo App
- Project Manager of the Year (1st Runner-Up) – Selorm Kove
- Project of the Year (2nd Runner-Up) – The Massive-MIMO Technology Project
At the core of MTN Ghana’s success was its Project Management Office (PMO), which earned the top honour for its role in managing and delivering a wide portfolio of projects that align with the company’s strategic goals. The PMO was praised for its excellence in project execution, benefits realization, and performance measurement. Through strong governance and rigorous monitoring, MTN’s PMO has consistently delivered high-value outcomes that support the company’s Ambition 2025 strategy.

The NextGen MoMo App was the flagship project that won Telecom Company Project of the Year, recognizing MTN’s role in reshaping Ghana’s fintech landscape. The app is a breakthrough in mobile money services, offering users a faster, more secure, and seamless digital experience. With its innovative features such as biometric authentication, QR code payments, digital lending, phonebook-based money transfers, and utility bill payments, the app aligns with all four pillars of MTN’s technology strategy—Platforms, Ecosystems & Services; Agile Operating Model; Connectivity & Monetization of Infrastructure; and Experience: Second to None (PACE).
The app has not only enhanced customer experience but also positioned MoMo as a powerful ecosystem for financial inclusion, contributing to increased customer retention, higher transaction volumes, and broader digital participation.

In the individual category, Selorm Kove of MTN Ghana was honoured as 1st Runner-Up for Project Manager of the Year. His leadership in overseeing Multiple Input, Multiple Output (MiMO) projects was hailed as a game-changer. He implemented performance dashboards and predictive tracking mechanisms that improved execution speed, enhanced communication with stakeholders, and minimized project delays. Selorm’s results-oriented approach has been instrumental in building a more agile and accountable project culture at MTN Ghana.
In another remarkable achievement, MTN Ghana’s Massive-MIMO Technology Project was adjudged 2nd Runner-Up for Project of the Year. This project aimed at enhancing 4G capacity and coverage across ten regions in Ghana, including Greater Accra and Ashanti, by upgrading existing infrastructure rather than building new cell sites. This innovative approach allowed MTN to improve data speeds up to eight times in high-demand areas while reducing cost and environmental impact. The project played a crucial role in supporting MTN’s digital transformation goals and improving the quality of service for millions of users.

Receiving the awards on behalf of the company, Emmanuel Afutu, Senior Manager for Base Station Subsystems Implementation, applauded the project teams for their resilience, focus, and drive to exceed expectations. He emphasized MTN Ghana’s unwavering dedication to excellence and innovation in every area of its operations.
William Tetteh, Chief Transformation Officer at MTN Ghana, praised the collaborative effort across departments that made these achievements possible. He attributed the company’s project management success to a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and strategic execution. According to him, MTN’s project teams are not only delivering on business needs but also contributing to national development through impactful, tech-driven initiatives.
The 2025 edition of the National Project Management Conference and Excellence Awards was themed “Innovating for Prosperity: How Project Management Will Shape Ghana’s Economic Future.” The event brought together project professionals, corporate executives, academics, and public sector leaders to explore how structured project methodologies can solve socio-economic challenges and spur national growth.

MTN Ghana’s recognition at the 2025 PMEA underscores its role as a leader in digital transformation, not just in telecommunications but across Ghana’s broader technology and innovation landscape. The company’s forward-thinking project management culture continues to set new benchmarks and drive progress for a more connected, efficient, and digitally empowered Ghana.
