Drivers in Assin Fosu to boycott roadworthy payment over dreadful road networks.

Drivers and Passengers in Assin Fosu have complained bitterly about the terrible nature of roads in the Municipality. Speaking with the Angel FM/TV Central Regional Correspondent, Kwame Owusu Asante Shadrack, they said notwithstanding the economic and social prospects, the roads in the Municipality had not received any major rehabilitation works and are ridden with multiples of wide portholes competing with erosion in the middle of the main high way that connect Kumasi and Cape Coast. The agitated drivers said apart from the frequent breakdown of their vehicles and the high cost of maintenance, the situation creates intense vehicular and human traffic making commuting in the municipality challenging and had slowed down economic activities.

On his part, the Chairman of the GPRTU Taxi rank, ‘Inspector’ Johnson Bampoh asserted that after paying road worthy and all the taxes effort to get the attention of the authorities to fix the potholes has proven abortive, the only respond keep receiving is the road is under contract. He said the current state of the roads in Assin Fosu does not befit the Municipal status. He, therefore, called on the MP for the area Hon. Kennedy Agyapong and MCE Nicholas Fiifi Baako to as a matter of urgency rehabilitate the roads to improve traffic movement.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Coordinator of the Assembly, Mr Charles Lartey reacting to the issue said the road is already under contract for rehabilitation of the Assin Praso – Assin Fosu section of the Yamoransa Junction- Asante Bekwai Road Project and with the fair conviction that the contractor will begin work very soon. He, therefore, called on drivers and passengers to exercise restraint.
