Dr. Mrs. Rose Yanka, an Assistant Internal Auditor at Kumasi Technical University and a proud alumna of Weweso M/A Junior High School (JHS) A and B, has donated thousands of sanitary pads and pens to students of her former school, reaffirming her commitment to education and the welfare of young girls.
The items, valued at thousands of Ghana cedis, were presented during a ceremony attended by students, teachers, and community stakeholders. The donation is aimed at supporting effective teaching and learning while addressing menstrual hygiene challenges that often hinder the academic progress of adolescent girls.

In her address, Dr. Mrs. Yanka encouraged the students to remain focused on their education and work diligently towards achieving their future aspirations. She underscored the importance of discipline, perseverance, and commitment, urging them to take advantage of every opportunity to excel academically.

She further called on stakeholders, philanthropists, and past students to support the development of the school, stressing that collective efforts are essential in improving educational standards and providing a conducive learning environment.

Dr. Mrs. Yanka also made a passionate appeal to government and relevant stakeholders to ensure the consistent availability of sanitary pads in schools. According to her, the lack of access to such essential items continues to force some girls to absent themselves from school during their menstrual periods, a situation she described as a major setback to girl-child education.

Following the donation, Dr. Mrs. Yanka took a moment to offer prayers for the final-year students preparing for the upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) scheduled for May 2026. She prayed for divine guidance, protection, and success for the candidates and encouraged them to remain obedient to their parents and teachers while maintaining a strong focus on their studies.

Receiving the items on behalf of the school, headteachers Mr. Kwadwo Appiahene and Mr. Amoh Kingsford expressed profound gratitude to Dr. Mrs. Yanka for her generosity. They described the donation as timely, noting that some parents struggle to afford sanitary pads for their daughters, and emphasized that the support would go a long way in addressing menstrual hygiene challenges and improving school attendance among girls.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Oforikrom Municipal, Mr. Ahmed Anwel Sadat, who graced the occasion, commended Dr. Mrs. Yanka for her commendable initiative. He lauded her for giving back to her alma mater and contributing to the development of education within the municipality.
Mr. Sadat further reiterated government’s commitment to partnering with investors and the private sector to promote the local production of sanitary pads. He explained that increasing local production would help reduce costs and make sanitary products more affordable and accessible to young girls across the country.

The event not only highlighted the importance of alumni support in education but also drew renewed attention to the need for sustained interventions to address menstrual hygiene challenges, ensuring that every girl has the opportunity to stay in school and succeed academically.
