Dr. Mary Awusi Represents GFZA at the Launch of Ghana’s 40-Year Infrastructure Plan in Accra

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Dr. Mary Awusi, has joined national leaders and key development stakeholders at the official launch of the Ghana Infrastructure Plan (GIP) in Accra. The historic event, held on Tuesday, October 22, 2025, marked the beginning of a 40-year strategic framework designed to guide Ghana’s infrastructure growth and sustainable national development.

Organized by the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), the Ghana Infrastructure Plan sets out a long-term vision to ensure coordinated, efficient, and inclusive infrastructure development across all sectors of the economy. The plan aligns with Ghana’s Vision 2057 — a comprehensive agenda to position the country as a globally competitive, industrialized nation by its centenary of independence.

The launch ceremony was graced by His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, who underscored the importance of continuity, transparency, and effective collaboration among government institutions, the private sector, and development partners in realizing the country’s long-term development aspirations. He emphasized that the GIP would serve as a national blueprint for infrastructure projects — ensuring that investments in energy, transportation, housing, and digital infrastructure are well-coordinated and sustainable.

Dr. Mary Awusi, who represented the Ghana Free Zones Authority at the ceremony, expressed her delight at being part of such a significant milestone in Ghana’s development journey. She reaffirmed GFZA’s commitment to supporting the national infrastructure agenda, emphasizing that robust infrastructure remains the cornerstone of industrial growth, trade facilitation, and foreign investment attraction.

“Strong infrastructure is key to driving trade, investment, and industrial growth — essential pillars for Ghana’s Vision 2057. At the Ghana Free Zones Authority, we are deeply committed to creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, and that starts with reliable roads, ports, power, and digital connectivity,” Dr. Awusi stated.

She further highlighted that the GFZA continues to play a vital role in boosting Ghana’s export-driven industrialization agenda through the establishment of free zones and special economic enclaves across the country. According to her, the alignment of the GIP with GFZA’s strategic objectives will open up new opportunities for public-private partnerships and regional trade integration.

The event brought together government ministers, parliamentarians, heads of state institutions, development partners, diplomats, and representatives from the private sector and civil society. Participants commended the NDPC for its foresight in developing a comprehensive and forward-looking plan that balances economic growth with environmental sustainability and social inclusion.

The Ghana Infrastructure Plan is expected to provide a clear roadmap for infrastructure investment from 2025 to 2065, with a focus on modernizing transportation networks, expanding access to energy and water, improving urban planning, and promoting sustainable industrial development.

Dr. Mary Awusi’s participation in the launch reaffirmed the GFZA’s readiness to collaborate with other state agencies and development stakeholders to ensure that infrastructure development directly supports Ghana’s trade competitiveness and investment attractiveness.

The launch of the GIP represents a renewed national commitment to building a resilient and prosperous Ghana — one where infrastructure serves as the foundation for inclusive growth, industrial transformation, and sustainable national progress.
