Dr. Mary Awusi Champions Strategic Investment Dialogue During German President’s State Visit

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Dr. Mary Awusi, has reaffirmed Ghana’s readiness to attract strategic investments and deepen international economic partnerships as she represented the Authority at a high-level Business Roundtable hosted by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC). The event, which took place in Accra, formed part of the official State Visit of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, H.E. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, to Ghana.

The Business Roundtable served as a platform for Ghanaian and German government officials, business leaders, and investors to engage in productive discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral trade relations and exploring new investment opportunities in key sectors including manufacturing, agribusiness, and renewable energy. The German delegation was led by Dr. Thomas Steffen, who highlighted Germany’s interest in expanding its economic cooperation with Ghana and supporting the country’s industrialization drive.

Representing Ghana’s investment facilitation and export development agenda, Dr. Mary Awusi delivered a powerful message on the crucial role of strategic partnerships in transforming Ghana’s economy. She emphasized that the Ghana Free Zones Authority remains fully committed to creating an enabling environment for both local and foreign investors, particularly those seeking to establish export-oriented businesses that contribute to sustainable economic growth.

Dr. Awusi noted that under her leadership, the GFZA continues to champion policies that enhance industrial productivity and create employment for Ghanaians while promoting value addition to local resources. She stated that the Authority’s focus areas—such as manufacturing, agribusiness, and renewable energy—align with Ghana’s long-term vision of achieving industrial diversification and export-led growth.

She reaffirmed Ghana’s reputation as a politically stable and economically progressive nation, offering unmatched opportunities for investment. “Ghana’s Free Zones Programme is built on a foundation of transparency, competitiveness, and investor confidence,” Dr. Awusi stated. “Through continued collaboration with development partners like Germany, we can harness innovation, technology, and skills to accelerate industrial transformation and job creation.”

The meeting provided a valuable opportunity for both countries to explore avenues for technology transfer, capacity development, and private sector partnerships to drive industrial modernization. Dr. Awusi’s engagement with the German delegation highlighted the GFZA’s proactive role in connecting international investors to strategic business opportunities in Ghana’s rapidly growing economy.

Participants at the roundtable commended Ghana’s consistent efforts to maintain a conducive investment climate, particularly through the activities of the Ghana Free Zones Authority and the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre. German investors expressed optimism about Ghana’s potential as a trade hub for West Africa, citing the country’s stable governance, skilled labour force, and expanding infrastructure base.

The discussions also underscored the importance of renewable energy and green industrialization as future areas of collaboration between Ghana and Germany. Dr. Awusi assured the delegation of the GFZA’s commitment to supporting environmentally responsible investments that align with global sustainability goals and Ghana’s climate resilience agenda.

The Business Roundtable concluded with a renewed commitment from both sides to strengthen Ghana-Germany relations through deeper trade and investment collaboration. Dr. Mary Awusi’s participation was widely recognized as a reflection of Ghana’s dedication to building strong international partnerships that drive industrial growth, technology innovation, and sustainable development.
